Its the stuff they use in churches, a mixture of Frankincense and Sandalwood, available in attractively priced kilo bricks at your friendly roman catholic supply house.
Exactly! The one that also carries the candles that can be used for ahhh....several purposes, including the less mainstream ones Last time I bought this stuff was in Roermond; talking about catholic country. That was about a decade ago, but I'm still not through this supply. Goes to show how 'often' I burn any incense...
But you definitely should give the Esteban a try. It's a really nice addition to the more Indian-oriented scents that make up the majority of the incense sold in the West. It does come at a price though; just found a store in Amsterdam that carries the brand, but € 11.95 for 40 sticks isn't exactly cheap.

Roman Catholic Supply Stores are a trip and a half, online and off. DEFINITELY worth a browse. Turns out all that stuff they use in churches (the incense, candlestands and the devotional lights that fit them, Eucharist Wine etc etc) is all on the (semi) open market. You could turn your home into a chapel if you wished it
I think we have the same supplier Koraks.
Church candles for hotwaxing, thats too sacrilicious for me man, wow.
I have a home altar in my living room (its Pagan) that features two ivory-white (a kind of yellowish) candles of the size 20 inches long x 4 inches thick. None but the catholics have em in that size, its like an arms race who has the biggest candles to illuminate their Service I burn them during special occasions (such as trips). The Nag Champa is to burn a stick in my daily morning ritual.

Word Living in the south and having had a job in which I visited homes a lot, I have occasionally come across interiors that featured lots of catholic elements. Not my personal taste though.

To be honest, I only came across kzuid just now, haven't bought from them (yet). I assume you have no experience with online orders from them? Maybe I should just drop in when I'm in Amsterdam one of these days. Although usually I'm there Saturday night and Sunday.

I kind of like the idea. If any religion would tolerate it, it would have to be Roman Catholicism. I mean, for me, Catholicism is the fascinating juxtaposition of piousness and utter sin, with several people living both aspects with full commitment. Still better than the Reformed hardliners IMO.

I like the idea of a home altar. I need to think that one over a bit. Perhaps it's a nice addition to my home, especially since my ex evacuated some of her more bulky stuff lately, so I have a little space to spare once more.

You could take a well-rounded onefooter dipping candle and it up her if you want to go the sacrilicious route.
Seriously though, don't. Bad karma even if you discharge the candle from spiritual uses beforehand.
I'll PM you my candle supply, also has assorted Mass needs.

Haha, yeah, that'd be something. Nah, while not a religious person, I don't see the purpose of intentionally using 'religious' candles for such purposes. Although I must say that I don't consider objects religious, especially if they haven't been used in religious ceremonies. In my view, it's such use that connects any religiousness to an object, and I don't consider candle production processes as religious ceremonies. You could argue that though.

I think there's something in there. Although I'm a bit more free-thinking in this respect, I believe. I think it's the intention that determines the effect on karma. I don't think it's possible to spiritually abuse an object if there are only good intentions involved.

Definitely, but 2 things:
1.. The candles are made with the intention of being religious objects, and thats how you receive em.
2..The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
Discharging them from spiritual use doesnt hurt and wipes the slate clean.
Marquis De Sade was a classical blasphemous BDSM practitioner. He wouldnt just use a religious candle, he'd break into a church with a whore and do it on the altar. The Marquis was a complete troll, if you read his work its very clear that the REASON he likes many things he describes is precisely BECAUSE its blasphemous and regarded as obscene. His books are

Definitely. Attempted to read his seminal work, but didn't get far. Too much insanity and obnoxiousness for my taste.

Yes, I'd have expected you would put it this way. Personally, I think I would (haven't purchased any religious candles yet) receive them as a neutral product. Unless specifically used in some sort of religious ceremony, I regard them as neutral matter. I guess our views differ in this respect.

It is one of the many reasons why I don't fear for any cold after my inevitable demise.

I've seen several BDSM enthusiasts refer to it. I might have to read it one day, although I haven't read much in the way erotic/BDSM-literature lately.

Its fascinating how Venus in Furs is written in 1870 yet its basically a blueprint for the sadomasochist subculture that culminated a century later. Amazing insights into the Masochist mind that are as true now as they were back then, the kinks just differ a bit.

I used to burn Nag Champa all the time, but then I started burning incense that I buy at a local tibetan store, run by a tibetan family and I stopped using it altogether. Not because I don't like it anymore, but because this other tibetan incense became my personal favorite.
My place is quite small also, so Nag Champa quickly becomes a bit overwhelming due to it's strong presence.
The tibetan incense I am talking about is not available online, as far as I know and I've never seen it anywhere else, other than this tibetan store where I buy it. A shame, because I would recommend it to you guys. If some of you are interested though, I will take some pictures of the boxes and post them here.

Yes, history is fascinating! You know about the murals in Pompei where men are being chastised with stinging nettles? I wonder if that practice went away and was rediscovered, or that it just stuck somewhere in the recesses of Western culture throughout the Middle Ages right up until the present. In any case, it fueled my conviction that bdsm and the connected behaviors are an inseparable part of humanity, or at least a part of the population.

A masochist told me that as a kid at school camp he was walking around in his swimming trunks minding his own business when suddenly someone gave him a big shove into a nettles bush, as their version of lulz.
His version of lulz was a few days later hanging out there again, hoping he;d get shoved into em again. As he put it, at the time the nettles didnt do much for him, wel hurt a lot, but being shoved into them and laughed at was an irresistable humiliation/pain event.
I dont think he saw the mural.
When confronted with nettles, some people get inspired to make another suffer withy them, and yet another wishes it was done onto them. Human nature.
A million years could pass, someone could get stung and go "hey.. HEEEEEY!! " and reinvent the wheel anew.
I think we should start a BDSM appreciation thread LOL.

I think we should. For the simple reason that we tend to stray off-topic lately, ruining many potentially interesting discussions before they can even take off

i went to a meditation center in my part of town and there was this lady there talking about sai baba and how great he was, and how he was her savior and how she saw him in a dream . she eventually told me about meditations they do and tried to get me to smoke the pipe of sai baba and i was like 'no thanks this is a little too awkwardly welcoming'. rather stick to the buddhist temple i go to, that lady seemed way out of it
