What is your preferred method for securing the top/inverted tub?
Thank you, for your time and knowledge

If it's a shotgun dubtub you want to just set them on there free-standing. This is because you will be opening them all the time to mist.

During colonization u can just use the lid that came with the tub. I like to add a half inch ge hole stuffed tightly with poly also because the ones on bottom of the stack have the lid pressed closed from the weight of the stack.

If you're going to do a set and forget type of dubtub, then I recommend scotch tape for simplicity, price, and ease of cleaning.

You might be tempted to attach some velcro or weather stripping or gasket material. However I found those things just make the tubs harder to sanitize between grows. Simple is better.

That explains why I couldn't find much on the subject, lol... Good to know. I had thought that a "hinge" of sorts had been fashioned, to keep the lids from getting knocked around and whatnot.

I made tape hinges when I started. Do a few that way, see what you think.

Which do you find to be more "set it and forget it": mini-monos or mini-shotguns?
I must admit; I like the cleaner looks of the mini-sgfc a whole hellava lot more. But; if the mini-mono is better for neglect, then that's the route I'll be going (I'll just use "ez felt", in place of Poly-fil).
Thank you, for the feedback

I never did get a polyfil-style tub to work right. My best tubs are 6qt dub tubs, shotgun style, in a humidity tent. Here's the thread that shows why: Efficiency comparison - 6qt dubtubs vs mini monos

Do you place any holes in the lower tub, for GE and/or FAE?... Taking a look at the link now... Thank you!

No. I used to drill a row, but I stopped doing it. Bottom tubs are taped, top tubs are drilled every two inches. Don't forget the "zero hole", a ten inch side gets SIX holes, not five. That's 20% more holes.

Yup, it's so much simpler to just put all the holes in the top tub. And it keeps the humidity better. I've done tape hinges, but if you plan on reusing the things u end up with tape gook after a few runs. It can get knocked around a bit just setting on there, but it's of little consequence, unless you've got a troublesome pet or something.
Are you planning on doing the humidity tent or keeping it out in open air? It makes a big difference in how u maintain them. Depending on the ambient RH you'll be misting anywhere from twice a day to once every several days.

At first; inside my bedroom... Eventually; outside, in a "shack", within a mini-GH, that will eventually (at some point down the road) be completely dialed in to perfect regulation... Until then; it is but a whimsical dream, floating on the distant horizon, just beyond my reach.

I was thinking of drilling a hole or two through the handle/rim on each tub, then running a zip tie through said hole(s) to create a hinge. Easy enough to cut off the zip tie when you need to clean the tubs out, and it will add a bit of stability during the fruiting cycle.
In this case I am talking about mini-MSG hybrid dub tubs, 6.5qt.
