Dunking
    #1457084 - 04/14/03 03:01 PM (14 years, 20 days ago)

Is dunking necessary if you plan on casing? My friend is about to harvest his first flush of a creeper mycobag, but was wondering if there would be any benifit to dunking since the point of casing it to supply moisture.

Not necessary but beneficial.

A casing helps to RETAIN moisture.

How would you dunk a cake if you have to crumble it? Or would you only dunk it once, before crumbling?

I'm sure dunking before crumbling the cake would be the most logical thing.

I thought water having direct contact with the mycelium could damage it...or is that just if its already pinning?

i am very curious about the same thing.....people say that misting a casing with mycelium growing on it is bad, cause it causes abhorts and spraying the mushrooms directly is ok-well why is it ok for dunking-thanks in advance all you pros out there.

When you have stagnant puddles of water lying on your cakes for prolonged periods of time it will easily welcome mold and other contaminations. (I'm right, right?) When you dunk, you simply place the whole cake under water for around 12 hours or so then dry it off yourself. I actually have no idea how it works, but it does.
