I think that I may have found a decent patch today at a work site, but was hard to tell because they were rotting pretty bad. Definitely looked like subs, however I have never seen a rotting one in person. What colour do the stems go?

I have had a few trip out to that well known mt. in the northwest.

have found a few up there, but the ones i found were never together, always just a random one every so often.

Have had more luck down at my local dog walking park. Less distance to travel too!

Looking forward to this rain, have seen plenty of pins popping!

Some pictures were posted on here of some subs that had been dried out by lack of rain, then rejuvinated completely a couple of days later. I think once they start rotting it's all over, but if they're just shriveled then it's probably likely they'll get new life if they're still alive by the next rain. But also, new shrooms will sprout.

yes indeed wintertime2 subs are hygrophanous along with other species including panaeolus meaning that if you find a patch of sun dried mushrooms (aslong as there not rotten) and rain is expected within the next day or so they will absorb the moisture and therfore go back to being fresh mushrooms:grin: but it also refers to the change of color as they dry out.

finds from saturday...
about 400g fresh. i know some of them have been ripped out, friends weren't listening when i said to use scissors -.-
and the pins...either taken because again friends wouldn't listen, or because they were shriveling up and dying.
also, many of the pins were ~10cm long, and were still pins... not opening up at all. any reason for this?

Fair enough.. Thought you could mention suburbs just not individual patch locations.

all from eastern suburbs.

edit:
also, while i was there... i saw some mushrooms growing which had the same shape/size as subs, but were very white and had orange gills. when i first saw them i thought i had found a mega patch of subs which had dried out a bit, upon closer inspection i realised they weren't subs... any idea what they could have been? (sorry, forgot to take a picture so i understand if no one knows what i'm talking about :P)

Just went out to a woodlands area and walked around for about an hour.... no luck
on my way home i decided to look around my suburb for some decent habitats..
noticed some ceres and these big mofos on the side of the road

A rough ID on these fellas would be great if possible (i didnt take any)

got out to have a look and BAM my very first patch/find EVER

150grams fresh

Not bad for my first find... it is a bit of a shame that they are sharing turf with the redheads
now i just need to research a little more on drying these babies.

Had a verrrry nasty trip on these guys... we added it to a mushroom cup-a-soup mix.... added boiling water.... n my god...
my friend n i were already a bit dizzy before i even finished the cups

the first hour was great... if not a bit sloppy... everything was funny... but we were also quite dizzy and a little disoriented

and from there it just went down hill.... i felt extremely sick and had to force myself to throw up a few times until i got it out of my stomach.. and my friend couldn't understand ANYTHING... his attention span went down to literally 10 seconds... he couldnt tell what was real, he couldnt remember anything we had already done that night.. couldnt remember if we took mushrooms, couldnt remember what mushrooms were and at one stage couldnt remember who either of us were

luckily after i threw up the majority of mushrooms and listened to some extremely chill music for about 20 minutes i was fine and was able to take care of my friend.... and once he woke up the next day he was fine also and remembered everything

it was a scary experience for both of us... but it just goes to show you must expect anything and be in the best possible mindset (also dont go overboard... i had done the same batch the night before and had a great journey... should have waited a few weeks before my second lot....... and my friend had had a long day at work so was already pretty tired n out of it)

a lil fyi.. we had about 16 (mostly)fresh grams each in our soup..... im NEVER having them in soup again... they hit you way too fast n way too hard for my liking

I had 1gram dried for the first time on sat night. Just chewed them up.

Must admit I had had a few to drink, but OMG what a trip! it was amazing, full visuals, crazy colours, voices from the tv were warping and going in super slow-mo. I couldn't even really get off the couch lol !

One question, I picked some more from my spot the other day and they had gone a bit black, the stems were still strong but the caps were pretty dark, I have dried them out now and they are a lot darker than usual. Pretty much black.

Are these still good to eat?
