We probably possess an almost insignificant understanding of the universe in comparison to the greater intelligences throughout the universe. That is the sentiment that I had in mind when I said that.

Wouldn't you have to have a significant understanding of the universe to know that?
I think it is good enough that we have a significant understanding of the observable universe.

I can't wait for the day where we have a post religion era. It's all complete nonsense.
Allah, Buddha, Jesus Christ Whatever your God may be Forget those idols let me tell you They're tales just of morbid brains
Everybody thinks he's right That his Gods are the only truth Fanatic faith, fanatic deeds Join my religion or die
Jews killed, killed Jesus Christians slaughtered Jews Millions die for their faith Each religion prays that killing is a sin How stupid logic can be
Curse the Gods Too many people have died Curse the Gods That fools have died for a lie
Beware of those fools that keep telling you God loves you, for you His son died Fuck them, believe in yourself Gods reality is just a lie
Curse the Gods Too many people have died Curse the Gods That fools have died for a lie
Curse the Gods Too many people have died Curse the Gods That fools have died for a lie

No, because it will be long after you are dead when such a thing happens. You wont be content if you are unable to wait for an event you wont be around long enough to witness.

think about how many planets there are, think about how long they have been around, if there is a 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% probability that any random planet will evolve life there that means there is a 99% chance that a planet a billions years ago evolved life and then there is a 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% probability that that life evolved intelligence and then survived meaning that for certain that some alien life lived a billion years given the grand extent of the universe.

Hard to believe 1/5 Americans is an atheist...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_the_United_States
Quote:
Religion in the United States is characterized by both a wide diversity in religious beliefs and practices, and by a high adherence level. According to recent surveys, 83 percent of Americans claim to belong to a religious denomination, 40 percent claim to attend services nearly every week or more, and 58 percent claim to pray at least weekly. A majority of Americans report that religion plays a "very important" role in their lives, a proportion unusual among developed nations. Many faiths have flourished in the United States, including both later imports spanning the country's multicultural immigrant heritage, as well as those founded within the country; these have led the United States to become one of the most religiously diverse countries in the world.
The majority of Americans (76%) identify themselves as Christians, mostly within Protestant and Catholic denominations, accounting for 51% and 25% of the population respectively. Non-Christian religions (including Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism), collectively make up about 3.9% to 5.5% of the adult population. Another 15% of the adult population identifies as having no religious belief or no religious affiliation. When asked, about 5.2% said they did not know, or refused to reply. According to the American Religious Identification Survey, religious belief varies considerably across the country: 59% of Americans living in Western states (the "Unchurched Belt") report a belief in God, yet in the South (the "Bible Belt") the figure is as high as 86%.

A week or two ago i showed him that most people dont belive in god now im trying to show the same about the afterlife.
On google i saw ne site that 82% of Americans believe in afterlife, but somehow i highly doubt thats true.
Anyone k ow the answer to the question?
So what your saying is you want to know how many people just die? Fade to black? No reincarnation, no alternate dimensions, just fade to black correct?
Or are you saying Afterlife as in a mainstream religious sense, which would still be high numbers considering how many people believe in religion.
I doubt many people actually believe you just decompose and the energy dissipates never to be used again. But then again, what is your fascination with people's beliefs?

I don't know whats out there, but I do believe in some kind of afterlife or just something we came from before we lived this life. I could entertain the idea that earth is a kind of experience that people go through to experience existence as it is here.
I dunno. I believe there is something there, but no I don't think we have a clue what it is.

I believe that consciousness is purely in the brain, and when the brain dies, so does your sense of everything. How could one be tortured in hell or whatever hell is in any religion, if there's no neurons left to feel the pain and suffering? Same goes with "heaven". Without a brain you can't feel or be aware of a god damned thing. How can there be an afterlife without a brain?
Some people argue that souls do all of that. Well if that's the case then what the fuck is a brain for if we can use our souls to feel emotion and be conscious? Let's just remove our fucking brains and rely on our soul to do everything! Oh... wait.... that's what religion does.

Our brain is just a program that allows our soul to experience life in this 3rd dimension. When the brain dies the soul goes back to it's home dimension that we were in before we stepped into the 3rd dimensional brain body suit.

I think of the body as a machine being remote controlled by your soul. The parts have to be there for it to work right.

I absolutely can't fathom all of this not having a point or my "soul" not enduring. It isn't out of fear, it's more like I would feel offended and pissed the fuck off that I was and then I wasn't with no point at all. I have to believe there is a point or I would go insane with rage because it would be that fucked up.
