Help with 2nd flush stalled :(
    #14569873 - 06/06/11 03:12 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Heya guys! My friend is working on his first grow. He has tried a couple of different setups to see what might work best for him. He did 5 cakes on lids placed in perlite chamber and did ok with that one for first flush.
He also crumbled 3 cakes into a mini bulk substrate tub...
-bottom layer was 50/50 soil and verm
-middle layer was 3 crumbled cakes
      -top layer was just soil

He covered and put in closet for a week and ended up with this.

He got a few pins and shortly after a very few tiny fruits. here is the pic of what he got...it aint much, but he is learning.

Now that those few fruits have been picked, he is hoping for a 2nd flush. The myc appears to be in bigger chunks now than when he put tub into fruiting conditions. This is what he had to begin with...

and this is what he has now...

Any suggestions on what he should do with this tub? Is there a way to get a 2nd flush out of it. Also, someone told him his tub wasnt fully colonized after that 1 week covered in the closet, but he didnt know since hes new to this. He is wondering if there is a way to step back and get the tub fully colonized and try again or is that not something that cannot happen.

Another thing hes not quite clear on.... Fruiting Conditions....
Is there when you take fully colonized substrate and put it into a greenhouse or tub with perlite in bottom? and is this where you give 12/12 light and dark conditions? Need high humidity and FAE, right?...even with bulk substrates? alot of these teks are a bit confusing, plus he is having to do all of this in a "stealthy" manner as there are people in his house that prolly shouldnt know about his project ( they would prolly help themselves to his harvest...LOL).

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for your input!

Peace and love to all,

Hyacinthe

12/12 light and dark.. Is old. light can be introduced even when they are in jars.

Light is a small pinning trigger. The biggest pinning trigger is moisture evaporation from the surface. Other than that wait about 3 weeks for the tub to fully colonize Thus it can also 'consolidate' on the substrate prior to introducing fresh air. Then keep moisture on the substrate by misting it, this way you let moisture evaporation happen, and the drop in humidity by introducing (fresh air)does the rest.

umm...

that tray was def. NOT 100% colonized. & no there is no way to get it to that point now.

Cakes should stay as cakes & not be spawned to bulk. Use grains for that.

Make a properly constructed SGFC per the RR videos here www.mushroomvideos.com

they'll do you right.

6500K deks lamp bulb on a timer for 12/12 cycles.

A cube is a cube. You're looking to hard into this. A mono tub is basically self regulating, just like a SGFC. There's just different things/reasons/methods that go into them and why we build what we build.

OK, I think I am starting to realize just how stupid me and my friend are... Am I right to think that using a crumbled PF cake into a bulk substrate is wrong was to do it? My friend got this tek that said do PF cakes, then crumble to bulk, cover for 1 week, then take them out and mist them 2-3 times a day...no fruit chamber, nothing....guessing this tek was CRAP :frown:

At any point, I think he is gonna try WBS spawned to something bulk...any suggestions? Its gotta be self contained for discrete measures, and his job makes it hard to be able to mist and fan 2-3 times a day sometimes... occasionally he gets called in to work from friday night till sunday morning, so he needs some automated FAE and RH ideas.

Any and all advice and greatly appreciated guys! Thanks so much in advance and sorry if we sound like a broken record...there is so much info of different ways to do stuff that its getting kinda confusing.

Peace and love to all,

Hyacinthe

check out the mono tub link in my signature..."one flush wonders" that'll have all the info you need for the bulk.

You guys weren't wrong, the tek was. You can crumble & spawn BRF cakes, but it's not really worth it.

Just UTSF on here a little more and you'll get it.

I like those quotes, I haven't been doing this a very long time and still have much to learn like OP but from my first coue grows the quotes really hit home. Thanks for sharing brother.

Tudlow to the recuse again. U da man  :bow2:
Follow him but remember his 2nd statement, as your conditions, ie, temp, rh, hole size, and what not, might not be the same as his in ur area, but yah it needs to colonize more B4 introduction to fruiting. :goodluck:
