I drew it with my Micron .005 pen ... which is just a tiny tip because I tend to work in small detail ...
I scanned it in and colored it in Photoshop ...
thanks for the kind words ... it's just a change since I tend to leave so much of my handdrawn work as black and white ...

Thanks ...
I don't do much in the way of comics, but I am an illustrator/graphic designer ... I usually draw to convey a feeling through imagery, but in this case I was just designing a face ...

good work HB, I have some pretty nice work on paper, but no scanner, and I don't think I have a steady enough mouse hand to color that well with photoshop...
what are the technique's used for this type of work? ie..do you use one of those digital pencil tablet things?
oh and how long did it take?

What I did was I drew the face on paper, which took roughly 5 minutes, then scanned it in to photoshop at 600 DPI in Grayscale, when it was in photoshop I changed the image size back to 72 DPI, added a new layer over the existing image, changed the setting to Multiply (so that when you color, the color goes around the black instead of covering it), and I generally use the airbrush tool at 3% ...
I do all my work with my mouse, I don't have enough money to afford a nice Wacom tablet ... I've just developed a steady hand from drawing for so many years ...
I develop my own techniques for each picture I do, much like a stylesheet ... for this, I just picked a neutral skin color and did a flat cover on the face/neck, used a small eraser around the edges so that the skin color doesn't interfere with the background ... then i generally take the airbrush tool and pick either a lighter, darker, or more colorful color and go and add the highlights/shadows ... I'm quite experimental with colors and don't stick to the 'mandatory rules' of shading and coloring ...

ah hell.. its just i always seem to be doing other shit =\ Nothing in photoshop ever gets finished, it pisses me off
This image is like two months old.. and its not done! Not too, too much left.. touch up the reflection in the eye, do some shading to give the face more shape.. add lighting to the lashes, and draw an eyebrow =\
I should finish this...

It was great! What else did you use, or did you just touch up someone else's 3d eye?

Jared, I've decided you are either very modest or you completely underestimate your ability. I'm glad you're not stopping here, if it looks this good now, imagine how it will look when you're finished! Are you using a tablet of any kind for this?

I didn't mean it to be insulting at all, I just didn't think you could do all those 3d effects in photoshop. Remember, touching up pictures can be quite impressive, too. But if this is 100% photoshop and your own work, I'm stunned.

Not modest, I really am not very good. If you hung out in an art community for a while, youd know what i mean. My "style" is generic and devoid of emotion, its worthless and has no reason to exist... it might as well be used in advertisements =\
