Contamination? Overlay?

I am having a big issue with one of my trays showing excess yellow water and a deadened look across the top. It started out as the fastest colonizing tray of three, and it was left in colonizing conditions for a little bit too long (4-5) days with the top layer fully colonized and fuzzy. Eventually all happy fuzzy myc disappeared and now all I have is stringy mycelium and a substrate that becomes more exposed every day. There is "mycopiss" building up in puddles on the sides and small drops in the middle. I am worried about contamination because of the excess moisture, but at one time you could not even see any substrate because it had been so well colonized. I feel like I waited way too long to introduce into fruiting conditions and that it could be overlay. Can anyone identify what the problem with this tray could be? btw This is wbs spawned to 80% coir and 20% coffee pasturized. Has been in fruiting for only 4 days.

mycopiss
myc doesnt piss
those are metabolites , produced when the myc is stressed i see some uncolonized parts there , maybe a contaminant? time will tell

happy fuzzy myc
cottony myc is reduced when exposed to fruiting conditions the colonized substrate becomes more solid like block or cake.

No man pics not clear enough, though I do see some green but it could just be the picture & yeah myc sort of does "piss"

no, it's got problems. If it's NOT infected, it's making metabolites because it doesn't like the ph of the coffee grounds, and you didn't blend it good enough. More likely it's infected because of the coffee grounds. Pasteurized grounds=fail

Thanks for the advice paducahovoids. I did notice a bit of coffee ground, still balled up and wet on the top of the substrate. Looks like this particular one somehow got too acidic or didn't get mixed good enough. I will isolate it right away. Do you think adding gypsum would help manage the PH in this type of coffee mixed substrate?

I'd prob. just let it go, or try to carefully spoon the extra coffee off. straight grounds are a little basic for cubensis taste. I'd def. go for some gypsum next time.

Just wanted to add to this thread that all trays ended up fruiting wonderfully and there was no contamination. They are now on their 5th flush and have went through dunking. Happy ending Thanks for all the help though guys.

Do not do this. Coffee is acidic and it does not affect substrates is bad ways, simple as that. That much excess metabolites indicate a problem, but it's not because of using 20% coffee grounds. High temperatures or contamination can be responsible for the appearance of so many metabolites.
Also, that doesn't look over-colonized. You can't really leave a substrate to colonize for too long, unless it's more than a month. One to two weeks of consolidation is recommended after the top is completely white. In your case it's definitely not too long since I can still see patches where the mycelium did not colonize.

What technique do you use to dunk your trays?? PM me if you wish. I have just tried dunking a casing and it blues due to bruising then turned white again and not it is a light brown like vermi colored. I am waiting to see if it is contaim but i wonder if i dunked them wrong and dunking casings is a conflicted subject so i wanted to ask someone with success in it.
