Tomato garden question
    #14568806 - 06/06/11 10:33 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Does anyone know if tomato plants that have been damaged by cold rainy weather will come back ok when the weather improves?  I have a huge garden planted with about 50 tomato plants and the weather has been very weird this year.  The last few days have been high temps in the 60's and lows in the 40's and nearly all of the tomato plants have damage from the weather.  Does anyone else have any experience with this problem?

Most of them should recover just fine.  You may have the odd plant or two which never fully recover or even may die, but for the most part you should be just fine.

You can also try a little B-1 transplant nutrients. It helps week/young plants bounce back nicely. Spray and grow also does wonders.

Thanks guys that is good to hear.  I went to the nursery and they recommended kelp extract, so I applied that yesterday.  The plants actually look worse today than they did yesterday, but the weather was pretty cold last night and this morning.  I planted the tomatoes about a month ago and I used Dr.Earth Organic tomato fertilizer when I planted them, I will check the package to see if b-1 is supplied by it, if so is it still ok to use the b-1 now?

Tomatoes are a fucking weed. As long as there's no frost damage, they'll recover. Just keep them well hydrated and provide fertilizer if necessary.
