No, not from calling Microsoft tech support in India. 

I work in tech support for a major video card/mobo manufacturer, most of our products are designed and marketed for gamers and extreme overclockers. We are kind of #1 in the aftermarket part industry especially renowned for our support (figure it out yourself), So most of our customer base is pretty savvy when it comes to tech stuff, and appreciate our 24/7 support so most are a pleasure to work with. But we get some absolute retards and ignorant sons of bitches sometimes. Some people just have more money than common sense, people who have no business even going NEAR a computer trying to build them from scratch.. etc.  I just have to rant and let it out because it's not enough to just rant with my fellow coworkers.

But it's not the retards that bother me so much, retards that admit they know nothing, and listen to your advice, are GREAT. I love working with those people, because they listen. 
It's the retards that know nothing, but think they are king shit of fuck mountain that really get under my skin.

I see a pattern of the same type of mentality every day. Some people call up for tech support, know absolutely NOTHING about computers, but try and tell you how to do your job, when they are calling YOU for tech support. You give them your professional opinion and they just try and argue with you about how you are wrong.


Example:
"I need an RMA on my video card, it artifacts in WoW. You guys just sent me this replacement card and as soon as I installed it, it has the EXACT SAME PROBLEM as the last cards.. what the fuck!!! I want free cross shipping and give me a replacement right now and upgrade me to a 580"

"I see we have replaced this card for you 3 times already, and all 3 of your previous cards have passed testing, in that none of the issues could be replicated in our labs, have you tried checking other things in your system? This issue could commonly be attributed to a failing PSU"

"MY PSU IS FINE I PAID $200 FOR IT AND ITS "BRAND NEW", THE PSU COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE THE PROBLEM"

"well technically sir the 3 video cards we have sent you are newer, and all of them are thoroughly hand-tested before being shipped"
(If I were to use their logic, the video cards are NEWER and COST MORE therefore they could NOT POSSIBLY be the issue)

"REPLACE MY VIDEO CARD GODDAMNIT"

"well I can certainly help you out with ANOTHER replacement without any testing if that is what you want, but I cannot guarantee it will fix your specific problem. I would highly suggest testing the PSU, trying another PSU, testing the card in another system to see if the problem follows the card, or testing another graphics card in this system to try and isolate the issue if possible, what troubleshooting options do you have available to you?"

"I'VE BEEN USING COMPUTERS FOR 10 YEARS AND I READ ON SOME FORUMS THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THEREFORE I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE VIDEO CARD IS BAD"

'well sir in my 14 years of experience as a computer technician when you replace a component multiple times and the exact same issue occurs, it is prudent to check other components in the system that could be causing the issue, or you will just continue having problems in the future. We are certainly willing to assist you with any troubleshooting and technical support to track down the source of the problem"

YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT, I WORK IN IT.. BLAH BLAH BLAH (hear this one alot). I KNOW PEOPLE AT INTEL.

(yeah, so do I, and it's not like I don't see this exact same issue 500 times a day, I think I know what the fuck I am talking about) - if only we could say that. But we have to be nice and professional.

So customer bitches and complains and gets angry and illogical and tells me how to do my job, so I just go ok here's your RMA, but if you have issues with the replacement you might want to check X, Y and Z as possible culprits.

We only go through so much testing because every time you submit an RMA, when tested it either Passes or Fails testing. If you have less than a 2:1 Fail/Pass Ratio you get scolded. If we just RMAd every idiots card that calls up and thinks they need an RMA, it would be like 1:4.

Then this same idiot will call back a week later when they get the replacement and go over the same shit with some other tech, REFUSING to believe that something else in their system could be causing the issue even they don't know jack shit about shit, and will just argue in circles with you for hours. You can just tell as soon as they call when you look at their RMA history and see like 10 products all passed testing, this is gonna be a fun call.




Not everyone is like that, most people are good/easy to work with. Some people are very computer savvy, and when they call you up, explain what testing they have already done to identify the problem BEFORE calling, and within 30 seconds to a minute have their RMA. I love those calls.

Other people, don't know anything at all about computers, and call up FOR troubleshooting advice. We give them tips, common causes of their issue and explain troubleshooting steps,  step-by-step and will even walk them through it, and they are extremely grateful we are willing to help them track down the problem and may even learn a few things in the process.

I just hate the fucktards that argue with you when they have NO FUCKING CLUE WHAT THE FUCK THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. Think they know everything and try to argue with the tech support people who have been doing it for years and see the exact same issues day in and day out. It's fucking retarded.


I love my job.

Here is my retard tech call, I called after waiting months for a new driver for my printer to come out but I kept checking and it never did. I finally called and dude said scroll down on the list and there it was.

He did make me feel better saying that when they added the windows 7 drivers to the list that is when the list became scrollable so it looked the same for months to me when I would check but I still felt retarded.

The worst though, is people buying like a $500 graphics card, and thinking they can just stick it in their $200 POS prebuilt Dell system and have some badass gaming computer. Then when it doesn't work, call us up bitching. BUT DELL SAID IT WOULD WORK.

*looks up specs on system. Uhhh yeah sir, that has a 250watt PSU with 14amps on the +12v rail. Not even close to power that card.

Well do you guys even make a card that will work on that PSU?

No. Upgrade the PSU or return the card (OR DONT FUCKING BUY DELL/HP/GATEWAY/Emachines IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THINK ITS GONNA PWN JESUS CHRIST). I wish I could say that too. But I just say yeah that's not going to be sufficient and no current video card on the market that I know of or that we produce will even really be supported by that lack of power.

But then I will just allude to that and get the person to admit it themselves. "But HP said if I upgrade the video card or PSU it voids the warranty". Yep..  HP FUCKING SUCKS! I just lol.

I just checked and they removed the scroll feature to the driver list and the entire list drops down now.

I did tech support for Apple for a year.  Never again.  Dealing with assholes and retards is bad enough, but Apple customers in particular tend to expect everything to just work for them automatically, and firmly believe that they should never, ever have to be inconvenienced.

purchaced in 07. no proof at this point. Either way i already ordered the new card, despite money being super tight, looking forward to the upgrade. going from 8800gt to a gtx 460 SE. Should be coming in sometime this week. :vaped:

Not the greatest card for gaming honestly.. for a little bit more you could go with a 560 for much better performance.
But either way, definitely a big upgrade from the 8800GT.. happy gaming! :thumbup:

i wasnt looking for the best, like i said money is super tight. This one should be good enough for $120 after rebate. esp since teh 8800 did me well up to this point with all games ive tried so far. I could run bad company 2 on reasonably high settings. same with crysis 2.. etc. With the new card i should be flying. :sun:

Ya that's a pretty good deal. 560 isn't the best though.. just really good price/performance ratio. I wish I could afford any card right now :frown:
Either way it should suit you quite well. (make sure to reg within 30 days this time :wink: ) Free 10yr warranty too if you bought it this month.

I have done some work as a computer tech at people's homes and there you can usually ignore what they say and fix it on your own, i would go nuts if I couldn't do that.

Yeah it's usually the opposite. I have to listen to what they say, and tell THEM how to fix it.. over the phone/email. That's why I made this thread..
Pretty soon though I'm going to start doing my own stuff on the side doing housecall repairs/builds and consulting and stuff, that should be a lot easier... and $$$$

Yeah, working with people through the phone can suck so much ass.
I always thought it would be a good idea to set up a punching bag nearby cause some calls make you want to fight thangs.

Even though i don't know much about what you're talking about shroomism, I can relate to your story just like others that have posted in this thead. I work in tech support for a different industry and it really sucks when you have to deal with people who are assholes on the phone.

Sounds like you know how to handle it pretty well though. Sometimes I get so chapped at ignorant customers that I start to sense myself beginning to act like an asshole to other customers on the phone (who don't really deserve it).

It's all about maintaining your composure.. Dont sweat the idiots. They've probably always been idiots and always will be.

On the flip side, I'm way more relaxed and easy to deal with when I actually call any sort of helpline/tech support/customer service for my own issues just because I know there are some mean mother fuckers out there.

Yeah theres really no need to ever be rude to any sort of service or support ppl. W.e problems the company might have caused you, the service level employee is not responsible for it. Transferring blame just accomplishes more pissed off people and less problem solving. :bongload:
