rye jar myc absence ?
    #14549781 - 06/02/11 07:32 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Mycelium in my grain jars is looking very healthy since G2G 9 days ago though there seems to be 1 side of the jar where there seems to be no myc  growth whatsoever, i think no colonized grains reached that part of the jar. i shook them once at about 20% and now there at about 70%-80% any suggestions welcomed

cheers

It sounds like  you should give it a little more time, it's only been 9 days. The myc just haven't made it there yet.

With my first batch(7 jars), I shook them at 25%, 50%, and 75% and one jar never quite made it too 100% while all the rest did, I just used it and threw out the non-colonized section of that jar. Everything worked just fine. So I lost about 10% of one jar, no biggie

Either that area just hasnt colonized yet and you need to be patient,...or there might be a contam in that spot that will show itself later on and is currently stalling the mycelium. It happened to me with cakes. But it sounds like you're just being impatient. Time will tell.

Yeah i think i just need to be patient , its just my first grain jars colonized so quickly so i was expecting the same results.

thanks guys

btw will post if it does end up being contam

Be glad that your rye jars even started colonizing right. I inoc'd some rye jars with GT spores using MS syringe and it barely germinated and after a long time. Still one lonely spot of mycelium barely growing. I made a post asking if my grains were too dry or something and several people told me they were fine that it was just bad MS...even though i did several inocs with that syringe...all came out shitty. Only two jars made it and barely. I guess i'll just have to try a different spore syringe.

Most likely it'll all be good in a couple days, if not that contam will really let you know what's up out of the jar...

Bumping this again

Its been 3 days and 2 of the jars are pretty much colonized , though 3 seem to still have areas that are colonizing at very slow rates, its definitely colonizing but extremely slow. I have spotted no sign of contams in any of the jars.

anyone know why its slowing down? I have optimal heat and the jars have good humidity so im actually quite confused.

Also would i be able to spawn with jars that are not 100% colonized?

Give it time. Rye jars can take quite a bit of time. You got the temps at 82-86 F? If it's cold, they slow down a lot.:peace:

Mmm i leave the heater on from when i get home to when i leave in the mornings pretty much everyday though when i do turn it off it does get quite cold due to it being winter here it gets down to about 55 60 degrees. i just find it strange that the rest of the jar colonized so quickly except for these little bare spots with no myc that look like outlines of countries.
