You'd think they'd do the same with drying shrooms then.

Maybe a specific 'weatherwatch' thread would be a good compromise?

ask all the questions you like, as long as they are within the rules and in the proper forum

there is a thing known as the search function you know, which if you tried using it and reading a little, would answer 90% if not all of your questions. You've got to think that atleast someone has been through your predicament at some point in time right? the answers are all there if you just look for them.

Here is the key to success

I've heard of the search function.  Never asked a doubled question in your 6000 posts......or answered the same question over and over again?

The weather changes all the time and is different in every place in the world.  If all mushroom hunters posted when it rained, it would be hard to find posts about mushrooms due to all the chatter about the weather.

If you want to know about the weather, there are many websites for that, I use accuweather.com.  If you want to discuss the weather, you can do that in the pub.  If you want to talk about the weather in the hunting forum, slip it into another on-topic post, preferably one with pictures and no one will ding you for it.

Due to certain unmentionable circumstances I am really looking forward to hunting some more this week. I was getting a little worried, all my patches were starting to look dried up.

Couldn't agree more... I started getting a bit desperate trying to find some fresh sites.

Can't wait to see the flux in finds in this thread!

Question for those seasoned hunters.

I found a fat, fully grown, untouched patch of subs today in woodchips, all blackened, rotting away. Sad Panda.

My question is, will this patch regrow?, if so, how long will that take? or, how long after rain would it be expected to see new growth in that patch?

Thanks guys

Yes, there's no reason it won't grow if the mycelium is healthy, Check back after the next rains! And anywhere between 1-14 days after rain for growth.
Try searching on your topic for alittle more information.
Good luck.

Thanks, I figured as much. I wasnt sure if there is any difference in regrowth of patches of mushrooms that have been picked vs rotting.

I am searching atm but figured i'd ask first in this thread as this is pretty much a sub thread

Found these guys near my place last week. Was a bit unsure about them but spore print came back with the goods. Still concerned at the lack of blueing and the darkness of the stem on the lower half. Is this normal for mature specimens?

Sorry for the quality of the pic. Any response appreciated.

Cheers

I would say they would grow back after the next rain, however i do have a very small patch where i left them to rot. they didnt grow back in the next rain after, not even a pin. but im guessing that the myc had a flush at the start of the season, so you may still get subs but just not a those epic numbers... kept it posted though will be interested in the answer too!

Same boat, found a patch Friday, took two to spore print, came back good. Went back today to get some more and all gone black. Will be keeping a close eye this week. That'll learn me to only take a few.

Thank you! Back to the hunt then. Anyone got some inside info or tips for the Mt Macedon area? Its just down the road and I'm not really looking at picking hundreds.

Still unsure what exactly I'm looking for out there. Chances are I could have seen what I was after but dismissed them! lol

I was actually up there on yesterday. Had nothing to do so my girlfriend and I decided to go for a drive out to Daylesford. While there, I remembered ages ago that someone told me about Gravity Hill, so we looked it up and went for another drive out to Mt Macedon. It was actually a pretty dangerous drive, because I struggled to keep my eyes on the road - I was always on the lookout for places that would be good for a hunt! From the looks of things, I reckon they would be everywhere up that way.

I found the road where Gravity Hill is, but didn't know which bit to do it on! For those who don't know, GH is a road where you put your car in neutral and when you start to roll down, it looks like you're rolling up hill. Just couldn't find the right part of the road where you do it.
