well...how hot?
as long as the humidity in your fc is ok, you may get long skinny mushies, but you can compensate with more fae.

well shit, that sounds like heaven!
it would be helpful to start in winter, just because it will be its not so close to BOILING!!
but, if you have air conditioning, it will help.
but if you get anxious, give it a shot. i mean, whats the worst that will happen?
i'd try it. it not like they will put up their white flag immediately.

hahaha, I thought I was responding to someone asking about casing, thats why I put up that uncased cake, sorry. No I didn't watch it. Sometimes the stars align and bad ideas work good. Anybody can post any video and through the magic of television make it look good. Stick with us, at the shroomery, we won't steer you wrong. I've grown cubes on woodchips and got nice fruits......but it's definately not the best way. When you are ready to fail a lot, experiment. If you want that stuff to work, follow the crowd, here

definately the brf. If you can't find it, grind some whole grain brown rice in the blender, it's the only way to go for pf. After you get a couple of grows under your belt, you can try some supplements, like cow shit, ground straw, coffee grounds, milk, quina, the list goes on and on, but keep it simple the first couple of times

Thanx alot for you advice !!! It helps alot.If I use jars that are a bit bigger than the normal 240 ml/half pint jars for my cakes. People say colonising just takes longer then

Yes, they will take more time to colonize, but it also depends on the shape of your jar. And the jar for BRF must have a wide mouth, otherwise it will be really hard to get your cakes out of them.

fuck buying brown rice flour! i ALWAYS buy just regular brown rice and put that shit in the blender. dont put the whole bag in at a time though; put in maybe a cup and a half, then pick up the blender (while its on) and tilt it around get it grinding at different angles. you get a super fine, well, flour.
organic doesnt matter, but ive never found any other kind.
please please please do pf cakes first!
i may be late saying this, but i know input is input
godspeed, and good luck!

Why do you say this? I never did cakes and have had some good results. It is all about the research and using common sense. If you study up, clean up, and keep clean then in my experience it is easy to do whatever TEK you'd like.

well, i'm not disagreeing that reading, being clean and using common sense are essential, but let me elaborate.
pf cakes are fast. way fast. if you fuck up (which beginners do)(even while following the tek of choice) its not a lot of time lost in the incubator, or the fc.
pf cakes are forgiving. you can basically to whatever you want to a cake and it'll be okay. drop it, scrape contams off of it, forget about it completely, and they will pretty much do their thing anyways.
with cakes, theirs no need for a pc. its handy, dont get me wrong, and you should get one eventually, but cakes dont require one.
cakes are EASY! the hardest part is getting the mix of water/verm/brf flour right, and wait, thats easy too!
cakes get you ready for other teks. those teks may already assume you know what ge is and how to make a noc port, where as pf cakes teks assume nothing. no better place for a beginner to begin rather than the beginning.
grains are nice, no lie. but if you are that far along, you should also be making your own lc and perhaps even looking into agar; something a beginner should only be dreaming of.
pf cakes get you started with supplies that you will need for the future without buying needless things. yes, you should invest in a flowhood, dozens of quart jars, a pc, a lot of rtv silicon, and a ton of other stuff, but pf cakes dont demand that. which is nice if you find yourself not cut out for the hobby (or vice versa)
i feel pf cakes get the user experiencing things. never seen myc? cobweb? trich? mutants? you can see it ALL with cakes! and at a cost much less than with other substrates. "is my 3 week old grain jar contamed?" is not a question a newb wants to ask himself.
im not trying to knock not doing cakes, but I PERSONALLY would ALWAYS suggest new using doing at least one round of them. and i most certainly am not saying you are wrong in your ways either, but, to each his own.
when i first got on here, i was told cakes, and they worked out great for me. and yeah, im moving on to different and better things, but it is only because i know what im doing now, and have that ESSENTIAL sense of success and knowledge it takes to move on in any situation.
in the end, do as you please. cuz if your not doing what you want, then what are you doing? and with that in mind, best of luck, and let the force be with you.

you from KZN right ???? closer to the sea and maybe more north???? your best bet is to use whiskey glasses and seal the tops with thick tin foil. the bigger consols from pnp take about a month to fully con.
