Into the mouth of madness was pretty good. I also saw one I enjoyed called "The Ceremony" earlier today, though it's more in the suspense genre than horror.

As you notice, my list is very zombie heavy.
The Ring (US version IS better, dont be an otaku)
Hellraiser 1 + 2 (watch back to back, dont go beyond 2 you'll regret it)
Pontypool (even your horror-shy friend will think its awesome)
A Nightmare on Elm Street 1-4 (nine ten, never sleep again)
Braindead/Dead Alive (a MUST SEE if only for the Ketamine and the stroll with the baby in the park. You dont know gore until you see THIS one)
In The Mouth Of Madness (seconded)
Evil Dead 1 (2 is a comedy)
The Thing (essential!)
Re-Animator (nice)
Dawn of the Dead 2004 (kickass modern zombies)
28 Days After (this could happen)
28 Weeks After (sweet sequel)
Deadgirl (reminds me of OTD somehow)
Interview with a Vampire (only movie worth watching in the vampire genre IMHO)
Dead Snow
REC (strictly the Spanish movie with subtitles, the american remake is the lamest remake of a good movie ever)
Rosemary's baby (hey, its got a REALISTIC datura trip in it)
Night of the Living Dead (yes the old black and white one, its the first real zombie movie and a political masterpiece)
and, finally, the most fucked up movie of all time, bar NONE:
Srpski Film (obviously needs English subtitled version, you havent seen ANYTHING like it, very disturbing.)
Watch that movie closely and sober, once you reach this music:
You know you've been Own3d for the remainder of the day.

Scary movies!
I'm gonna rant I guess
But one mans scary movie is another man's laugh fest. I personally thought Human Centipede was HORRIFIC in every sense of the word. I don't get how you could "laugh that off" The subject matter was truly intense, and gross. Even for me, and I punch my own dick. So, I honestly think for some there is no such thing as a scary movie. Either that, or they do have the same reaction as we do, (people who get "scared" I.E. experience a negative reaction), but prefer to put up a macho shield. I can't even talk about horror movies with certain people, because it is as if they don't even feel a thing. I think they watch them to fit but don't really react the subject matter like other people do.
To WiccanSeeker: I agree with you 99% of the time, but Interview with a Vampire is garbage. It made the vampire, which was supposed to be this disgusting thing rooted in surreality and made it palatable to modernity and the senses, which is a crime against the horror genre. Vampires are supposed to be able to seduce you despite their bat-boy appearance. With that said, I think Nosferatu 1979 is the king vampire movie. All the other movies on your list more or less rock though,:-)
Here are some movies that got to me:
Misery
The Devil's Rejects
Dawn of the Dead 79'
The episode of the X files about the mutant inbred family
Anyway, that is some of the movies I can think of that left my "tongue burning" (I think of adding an element of horror to movies is like adding Spices. Some movies are jalapenos, some are habaneros.

Well...I had a phase of intense horror movie marathons a couple of months back...let me see if I can help you...
I like slasher movies, especially of the inbred remote hillbilly kind, I'd recommend The hills have eyes, the remakes are pretty good. Also the Wrong turn series, pretty funny.
Other than that, The Descent, as good as a horror movie gets these days. SciFi horror: Pandorum Zombie horror: 28 days/months series, Dawn of the dead Paranormal horror: Paranormal activity (although can get a bit boring) Foreign horror/thriller: Let the right one in, Troll hunter Horror comedy/cliche exploitation: Dead Snow, Dale and Tucker vs. evil, Shaun of the dead, The rise of Leslie Vernon Old ass awesome horror movie: Nosferatu 1922
Other kind of horror I'm to lazy to find a tag for: Midnight meat train, Se7en, Cabin Fever, House of a 1000 corpses, Devils rejects, The exorcist, The exorcism of emilly rose and a lot lot more...
Also special mention, not as much a horror movie, the most fucked up movie in the history of fucked up movies: A serbian film, you'll get special access into the club if you watch it all the way trough, not necessarily a good thing.

I know I have my batshit crazy side but I honestly thought A Serbian Film was kinda funny. I was LOL through to the end and normally I don't laugh when I watch all those fucked up movies--trust me I've seen 'em all I love that shit.

OK I gotta say one of the two best movie experiences I've ever had were watching Alien and the original black and white Night of the Living Dead. Both times I was completely sober when the movie started but about 1/3 of the way through the movie (when things start to happen) take a big old bong rip and HOLY SHIT. Put me right in the middle of the movie. Nothing can do that like a horror movie. I gotta say when I put Alien up on the big TV with surround sound during that, I got truly frightened a couple times and THAT NEVER HAPPENS 'cause I've been watching horror movies since I was a kid. I love weed.

I had the reverse effect some years ago: I was VERY MUCH into a movie, I decided to smoke a small joint, lost all interest in the movie and turned it off, bored, less than 15min later.
Weed can help you tune in or it can be a distraction.
