Yes but not nearly loaded on creatine. I don't even load creatine but after a month or so I assume I have at least an extra 8-9 lbs of water weight.
I'm not sure what you think I'm misrepresenting. I lifted my ass off for 7 months to get to the 190 mark. I may or may not have used a pharmaceutical at one point. I then stopped lifting cold turkey and starting rock climbing which really isn't anabolic at all. Muscle is not going to be retained when you go from lifting 4x a week @ 3000 calories to climbing 3x a week at 2200 calories especially leg mass.
Extra muscle mass has a huge affect on body fat percentage losing a lot of muscle and ending up 11% ain't that crazy either.

Lyle McDonald also says that 2lbs/month is realistic for a beginner trainer and that is one without prior experience. He's a lot smarter than both of us put together.

had my fisrt squat session of the year today, in fact the first in 2 months almost. it went a little something like this:
50x5 90x4 130x3 170x3 200x3
so nothing but deadlifts has kept my squat strength up after all. I thought the received wisdom was squats will keep your deads up but not vice versa? whateverrrrr.

I didn't say you were misrepresenting anything; you are the one who claimed I was misrepresenting what you said. I was just skeptical of your claims.
Also, why won't you answer as to how you calculated your bodyfat %?

2 lbs. of muscle gained per week? That would be right at or just slightly above the theoretical maximum for annual gains (~23 lbs. per year.) I'd say half that is a bit more realistic for a beginner, assuming of course they are doing things right & are properly committed.
Where did 2 lbs per week come from?
And dude, I've seen COUNTLESS people put on more than 10 lbs of muscle their first year. And again Lyle's research trumps yours.

When did this thread turn into a debate? Generally diet defines what you put on and what you lose. You lift hard, and properly and have a good clean diet geared towards lean gains and without any lifting experience I could see 15# in a year. People who are large and their bodies have built a lot have slower gains without hormonal supplements.
Gotta do my 3 squats today at 345, then tomorrow (a day early) I'm gonna do 5 lol. May throw in some back tomorrow. My hip kills however from attempting 500 twice. Should be obtainable soon *fingers crossed*

"Keep in mind that high-level athletes are the subjects of these studies." How is a beginning male lifter equatable to a high-level athlete looking to put on mass. They will be much closer to their genetic potential than the skinny 6'1" 155 lbs kid who wants to pack on weight.
I'm actually very SURPRISED a high-level athlete packed on an additional 18 lbs of muscle in one year. That makes what I'm saying seem even more credible.
My source is Lyle McDonald creator of www.bodyrecomposition.com and writer of quite a few nutrition/training books. He's very well known.

Lol how bout instead of arguing theory one or both start lifting according to said disagreeing theories and report back......and if your not willing to who cares? Or you could make a ""bitching about powerlifting theory thread. Boosh.

Fuck I gotta start dieting, my pants are getting tight again. Gonna start using that myfitnesspal app again, it seemed to help cuz I would avoid foods that would look bad on it. Gonna try to get in for some acupressure therapy in the next couple weeks, my muscles are constantly sore.
Going in the am for the 5 squats, and probably back.
How've your massive OHPs been going champ?!?!? Any tips on form for increased weight, or form in general? I don't come down to my chest, just to 90° in the arms.

EntheogenicPeace said: My apologies, sometimes I'm too technical for my own good. We may be operating under slightly different terms, which is the source of disagreement... the difference between lean mass (of which muscle is of course a component) and the muscle (protein) itself. I was talking about the latter in terms of protein requirements (i.e. about 23 grams of muscle per day being the most that has been observed being gained over the course of a year, or 18.25 lbs.) But what you said I concur with in terms of the former. I actually read some from Lyle MacDonald (it was the second search response after the one I cited, & from the bodyrecomposition.com site that you just mentioned), and he made the distinction in his article. Again, my apologies for being an overly technical science nerd.
I see.

Same here man.
I just have to be careful not to let drugs get in the way. It's easy to say fuck it and not work out when doing a lot of oxy.

I've been consistant too. Monday/Wednesday/Friday
30km+ rip on the bike after work/before dark, and then a decent shoulder/arm workout after a KB workout.
I am jazzed.
The key is coming home and getting straight to it. Not relaxing after work.
Got a run in after my workout on Monday too!
I've definitely shifted my priorities from working as much overtime as possible, to taking care of myself with exercise in diet.

I grew up drinking a gallon of 1% milk a day, but quit drinking milk all together when i moved out at 17.
Anyways, i've recently added whole milk to my diet. About 1.5 gallons a week. I find it really satiates me, and actually give's me a bit more energy. I am really busy at work, so it's a really convenient 6 second snack before lunch.
As i mentioned before, i've also started taking a protein powder after my workouts.
It seems like you guys are suggesting to supplement protein intake with the powder on a daily basis? Would you recommend this with my current 3 day/week lifting routine?
If it makes any difference My dietary intake of protein is pretty lean: 2 eggs daily, a can or so Tuna/week, maybe a couple chicken breasts throughout the week ... beans, hemp seeds, and other seeds and nuts scattered throughout the week
I don't eat a special diet, just healthy whole foods, my girlfriend doesn't like to eat a ton of meat ... so i certainly don't force feed protein at every meal, like some of you guys!
