Started the starting strength, squat 215, DL 215, bench 185, figure in 4-6 weeks I'll be at my normal 5RM. Sore as shit, today is my workout B plan.
-------------------- I challenge you to challenge yourself more! When you feel complacent and ready to hang it up, challenge yourself to get over it! If you fail, don't look at it as you didn't succeed, look at it as you would a rock face you're trying to climb. Stand back, wayyyy back, and look at it and plot another path. If you can't find one, shuffle down the way a little, a little change of scenery or a view from a different angle may give you the insight you need. Anything I state is relayed information from a friend of a friend and should be viewed as completely fictitious. Ill be finishing my 5x5 program soon. Should i do that kind of a program? Its "starting" strength. The 5x5 is also a starting strength type of routine.
Furthermore, how do you know what weight to start off with?

The weight took a bunch of research lol. They say 60% of your 5RM. I just dropped my bench 60# and squats about 90#. I figure with the crap (prohormones) I'm taking, recovery should allow it. I LOVE the Bill Starr's 5x5 and saw huge strength gain after I had a good base. When I hit my 375# bench it was after a month of 5x5, and my bench went up from 335 to 375, that's 10# in 4 weeks, it's possible! I'm gonna use this SS to rebuild that base for sure. The 5x5 can be viewed as a variant of the SS for sure, and it's a great routine, I just think it works better when you've got a good base. I did the 5x5 a couple months back for 6 weeks, and only saw like a 20# increase in lifts, which after almost a year away was great, but I was lacking something. I guess I'm trying to say the 5x5 is for more "advanced" growth. Finish the program though, don't stop and start something new halfway through. Let your muscles build to that, then the SS will shock the fuck out of them. I'm still sore from Tuesday.

Thanks!! Well i took off for 2 months doing some crossfit to change it up. I have 3 weeks left of this and i can already tell im back at the level i was at before i did the cross fit. And yea SS looks like just a lesser version of the 5x5. So after i do this i should go to the SS and work up again like i did in the 5x5?

I'd say yes, but I'm no fitness guru lol. I'm not sure if you need a break or not. I would do it though. Just be sure you're getting like 1.5g protein per lb of body weight or 3 per kilo if you're one them weird "rules of 100" type people
I suffer from not taking in enough protein for sure. Gonna go hit up day 2! Really psyched to get this ball rolling!

I saw pothead bob arguing that eating grains is more economical in another thread and it made me wonder; How much money do you guys spend on food per week? If you could please describe how many meals you cook vs. eating out.
I spend probably $80/100cdn per week and don't eat out much, maybe 1 quick lunch (6-7$ sandwich) and MAYBE a meal...
Chicken breast, gouda, feta, rib eye and strip loin steaks and generally lots of good healthy whole foods.
I spare pretty much no expense to eat what i want.
How about you?

Someone call the ambulance... I attempted suicide today at the gym... Too much lifting... 10x10 is intense. Deads 10x10 no reason for that. I was only lifting light weights, trying to get form down, but it f'd me up for sure. Hit other back things up too. It feels like I've got a rod shoved up my ass. lol. I can't wait to wake up tomorrow night for work. Right now I can't really get my fingers to type what my brain wants. /life

In my fanatical eating stage I was eating as much of the 'good foods'
heaps of roast meals, 2 roast meals a day usually, 2+ litres of milk (not quite a gallon but i can't stomache that much milk) heaps of sushi, chicken and tune and all the rest of it.
Starting strength was a lot of fun for me. I just got 2 mates to start it and they love it, the best thing about it was being able to focus so much on nothing but big lifts, but I never did military press with it (I did the alternative press) which I am kicking myself as my press strength is miniscule.
I am hoping to get back to the gym mid next week, I think I might have to go back to SS for a month or two. I never did 5x5 and don't think I know anyone that did, but I feel happy with the transition I made from SS -> 5/3/1

I don't know about going from 5x5 --> SS? I thought Starting Strength was just a beginners barbell program to build the necessary foundations to move to more advanced training like 5x5?
anyone else feel like this? It would seem you would be going backwards, or at least taking a step back to build more strength for something else again later? SS is pretty broken down compared to 5x5

I've done the 5x5, but think the SS is a great shock to the muscles. It's always great to confuse them. Went to 225 for squats today, Saturday will be 235. Figure at this rate in 12 workouts I should be at 355 if I actually eat well and don't stall. In 20, I'll be over 400, and my 1 RM should be close to where I wanna be. After today's workout I drank some amino energy by ON, it was pretty good, then a hydro mass builder with milk (also ON) and ate a footlong sub in two sittings. Gonna drink another protein shake when I get home and eat, then go to sleep.

Also, after this regimen, I'm probably gonna hit the Bulldozer training program. After I get power, I'm gonna go for leaning out, but this time NOT quitting my lifting.

Believe me I eat tons, but lately I've been cutting down, trying to lose some fat. I'm up though, gonna do a bf test Saturday maybe (just a grip deal that is off by 2 or 3%). I decided that 1500 calories in one sitting could be better as 500 calories in 3, and I'd be less apt to falling asleep lol

My body rejects weight loss too; the lightest I've been since I was 10 or 12 was 195 and that's when I was 17 and running like a mother fucker, otherwise it's been 210, and more recently 250. I'm just trying to get down in bf %, and if I can do that while staying 250#, by the power of Greyskull, I would! I don't like being 250 cuz unless I'm lifting 400# my ratio is off and it hurts my ego.
