what do you do for recovery? anything else when you're not lifting?
I'll use L Glutamine on days that I feel particulary sore from training the previous day. (1-3 5g servings) It helps to speed up muscle recovery. Most of the time though I don't feel its necessary. I mainly use it when i'm coming back to training after a break as the muscles aren't used to the intensity of the exercise. I find a good nights sleep helps recovery more than anything though. I do 45 mins boxing once a week and I go for a 30 minute jog once or twice a week. Thats pretty much the only other exercise I do other than weightlifting.

Heres something i didnt really think about. Awesome in lifting the heavy weight. But try to do it as quickly as possible while retaining perfect form.
Get that explosiveness going. Even though its hard to do heavy weight fast. You should still try.

Good advice here, glutamine is definitely one of those aminos that has many benefits, not only does it speed up recovery times but it also provides a lot of support for your gut and intestinal track.
A good nights sleep is always a key part, all types of rest and relaxation really help. BBer's and Powerlifters alike have three common elements to their lives: EAT, SLEEP, TRAIN.

Thats actually exactly how I train. I take the weight down slowly and controlled ensuring form is good, and push/pull up the weight as fast as I can, although often the weight won't go up quickly. I've just found this approach improves my strength more and its easier to get the reps done without sacrifing form. It can be hard to keep good form if you are taking the weight down too quickly, and it can be hard to get the weight up if you arn't moving it quickly or explosivley.

Ok, yesterday just turned out to be a day with the girlfriend putzing around town on bikes, so no run.
Today:
KB Halo
- 2x20 @ 40lbs - 1x20 @ 60lbs
Powerclean
- 3x5 @ 105lbs
(I am feeling fairly confident in this movement, and could surely be pulling much more, but am going to keep the weight lower and focus on form for awhile.)
Powerclean and Press (overhead press)
- 1x5,3,1 @ 105lbs - 3x5 @ 100lbs - 5x5 @ 80lbs
BB Row
- 1x8,5,5 @ 105lbs - 3x5 @ 100lbs - 5x5 @ 80lbs
T-Bar Row
- 4x5 @ 120
Deadlift
- 2x5 @ 295 - 3x3 @ 295
Followed by a hearty breakfast; 3 eggs benny (with spinach and basil) english muffins and hashbrowns covered in hollandaise sauce.
About to go out on the bike, 30kms to the beach there and back.
(NOTE: This week and last I am finding deadlift sets of 3 much easier on the CNS. I think I would prefer to deadlift more sets with less reps, rather than the 5x5 i've been doing.)

Hey man how long did it take you to learn the powercleean? I'm really struggling and its coming up again wednesday
Krackatus; how do u find the glutamine helps? I just started taking glucosamine (for my joints, my knees are a bit fucked from a few motorbike crashes where my knees too all the fall)
Here was my log for yesterday.
Tragic today. Had to use god-awful gym at the maritime college in beauty point. Might as well not have bothered equipment was abismal. Squat rack was fucked, bars were piss-tiny and thin and plates were fucked most not even fitting on the bar had to resort to weights from the dumbbells haha
So
Pissy warmups
Pissy squats Got to about 110kg I think, racking was really hard so I didn't bother risking my back going any higher
Pissy bench
70kg or so Again, hard to rack so fuck that
Pissy deadlift Got to abt 130kg and did like 3x5 because bar was shit cldnt fit any more weight (Here's what I was dealing with: http://yfrog.com/kg9adzj)
Pissy dips with 20kg 3x8
Then fucked off
Better luck wed
Shame too I was really looking forward to double deadlift days this week
And my knees feel achey for some reason could be this lingering cold + took glucosamine last night?
Meh
Need a massage. Rub n tug on wed
Fuuuck

Hey at least you got in the gym xk, don't et down on yourself we all have our bad days! I read a study recently showing glucosamine to be ineffective. I will try and find it and post a link.

This is what i used: http://stronglifts.com/the-ultimate-beginners-guide-to-power-cleans/
I found the movement very natural, maybe because i am quite flexible.
I am open the possibility that i may be doing it incorrectly though.

Yeah from what I am learning its fuckin loaded with intricate movements that are complicated
Of course its entirely possible you are just a natural pro
I am not though
To learn I am going through the progressions (the hang, shrug, scarecrow, etc)
I fuck up around the point of getting under the bar and coordinating the "jump/squat" with the shrug and pelvic thrust
Just practice I guess... Tmrw is powerclean day I will have another red hot go
Cheers for the link will sus it tmrw when I get to a computer (bberry atm for past few days)

I remeber learning it back in the day, definitely a lot of specifics to get down so that you are keeping proper form. All the little things your doing xk like hangs, scarcrowe, and shrugs are very appropriate and important steps in learning. I would definitely get those things down and feel very comfortable before moving on and actually getting down with the clean.
