I didn't read anything in his post that suggested grips emphasizing pecs or arms. I thought he was just explaining his technique. I guess I missed the part where he asked for advice on how to better develop his chest or arms with the bench press.

You know you still use your pecs with close grip benches right?

A wider grip shortens the range of motion at the top of the movement, lessening the contribution of the triceps. A narrower grip shortens the range of motion at the bottom, lessening the role of the deltoids and pectorals, as well as placing more emphasis on the triceps. In powerlifting, the legal maximum width a lifter may take on the bar is defined as 81 centimeters between the index fingers. This position is indicated on most barbells by rings.

Quote:

A narrow grip is sometimes referred to as a close-grip bench press. This grip is used to work out the triceps muscles more than the chest muscles.

.....

If you are trying to emphasize your arms more than your chest then keep your grip in. that's not to say your chest isn't getting worked but your arms are doing a lot more of the work. Like wise move the grip out and it's going to target your chest more. Shifting the angle of the bench will target different pec muscle too. It's no different than widening the length on a pull up to target lats more, or reversing the pull up grip to emphasize different arm muscles even though all are being worked out to an extent.

Do you think I'm wrong? Why don't you look it up?

Here, I'll just quote everything to make it easier on you all.

Nah man, I tried doing power cleans and snatches a few months ago. I tried doing it for two months. Not only did my wrists not seem flexible enough, I simply do not know anyone at my gym who knows how to do it.

So I quit it all together. I wanted to do them so bad, but I am pretty sure I was doing it wrong.

Where did I say anything "wrong"?
Or say you were "wrong" for that matter?
Look back, and you will see I haven't attacked, or criticised you, or anything you have said.
You misinterpreted my gif response as "NO. YOU ARE WRONG", when its intention was "Yeah, okay buddy, whatever you say, thanks for sharing, though I didn't ask".
I guess I should have gone with:

Incidentally, a vid of me not working my pecs optimally.

Good enough; time to lower the height of the box again. (forgive me lord, for I have been squatting high:blush:)

500lbs to competition depth by the summer, so mote it be.
also, I've lost about 18lbs since xmas, and, for a change, my strength hasn't suffered (much).
this is a good thing.

I'm down to 190 from 205, looking pretty lean. I've lost a decent amount of strength though so I'm saying fuck the diet until I can get over a 1000 pound total. My motto for the time being is "Mirrors are for queers." louie Simmons. Hah that's my update.

I've been lifting weights for ~10 years now.
On and off....
Started off "bodybuilding", as most guys do, got more into the strength side of lifting, but still
thinking about "aesthetics". These days I don't give a shit what I look like, and I don't look
any (much) worse than when I did care, and I'm a lot stronger than I was back when I thought I looked good, and thought I was strong...
I mean, I'm pretty strong compared to the average, but there are still guys twice as strong as me...
The spectrum of human strength is mindblowing to me in its range, sooo weak to so fucking strong.

Set a squat PR today. 210 lbs for 5x5 @ 145 lb bw. Not much compared to some of y'all, but I'm happy with it since I've never touched a barbell until 5 months ago. One small step forward.

External control, are you gonna let them get you?
Do you wanna be a prisoner in the boundaries they set you?
You say you want to be yourself, do you think they'll let you?
They're out to get you.

My knee wraps came today going to try them out today. The fed I plan to compete in considers raw belt knee and wrist wraps so I figure I may as well intergrate them into my training and get used to them.
