Just put in the fruiting chamber, how does it look?

so despite my warnings, my buddy decided to put his brf cakes that he spawned to hpoo in the FC. it's been colonizing 16days, and i told him it wouldn't hurt to go another week. he is impatient though, and stuck it in a SGFC tonight.

there is a spot on the surface that concerns us.

the pic doesn't really do it justice, it's so much fluffier looking up close. we've seen myc fluff up before, but never so....FLUFFY! worried it might be the dreaded cob. we will check on it over the next few days and pray until then
i guess what worries us is that all the myc around it looks rhiz and this spot is fluffy as hell!

Cobweb is a lot less substantial looking, and I know for a fact it never looks like Jesus.

If that's not cased then you should not be fruiting that just yet. It could use another two weeks of colonization and consolidation before fruiting.

Agreed. It is much more prone to contamination if fruited non wholly colonized.

it has about a half in of fine verm casing it. he saw the myc poking out all over and assumed it was ready. i suppose it is. up close you can see really fine hyphae reaching up off these tendrils of ropey myc with an ever so light layer of moisture, its kick ass. my buddy has an eye loop i think its called, the kind of piece you look at diamonds with: it really is a nice study.

You mean Jesus wasn't a wasp? lol
As I understand it mycelium will look different depending on what it is colonizing. If it is in a moisture/bacteria/nutrient rich pocket, it will be fluffy, thick, and slow to colonize. If the substrate is poor in nutrients/water content, it's going to be ropey and colonize quickly because it needs to quickly cover more area if it is going to get the water/nutrients it needs to survive. It probably doesn't mean anything. It doesn't seem too surprising to me that you'd get variation on a large substrate.
If that were my cake, I would be sure it gets enough moisture before fruiting. Dunk, drain, sprinkle verm on top, and mist

Doesnt look like horse poo on the surface, obviously some casing. Verm casing will make it very wispy like that. Very healthy looking though and perfect colonization for a casing layer. I'd have fruited it too.
