Galerina tibicystis?
    #14563814 - 06/05/11 09:29 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Hi,

I found this small brown mushroom growing on a floating sphagnum mat in the middle of a lake. It seems to match Galerina tibicystis, except I got a spore print that appeared to be white, instead of "rusty." Maybe it is possible the white material wasn't the spores, or are there other sphagnum bog mushrooms?

Thanks.

Yes, many species of Mycena grow on Sphagnum.

Thank you, I did a bit of research and it looks like it could Mycena megaspora. If anyone has any input I'd be glad to hear other opinions.

Thanks

just based on the fact that it's tiny and has white spores, I would call it a mycena sp. and leave it to grow. Most mycena's aren't edible or "magic". "similar to Mycena megaspora" sounds good, unless you have a microscope

Tephrocybe palustris seems likely - any more pictures?
