well wireshark is good and all , and sure pretty to look at, but if you have no idea what you're doing, i.e. (linux 'shit') these programs arent going to mean shit to you.

Seriously look into chaosreader for processing your wireshark capture files. http://chaosreader.sourceforge.net/

Using chaosreader, I caught my upstairs neighbor when I lived in an apartment looking at pictures of preteen boys with braces at 3am :frown:

theres something else for linux that does the same thing, er well it captures jpg and gif data. I forgot what its called, but it really does nothing but capture images, the GUi is nothing but a box with images capture and decoded,.

there are countless tools for doing such things;

*edit* I think its EtherPeg or DriftNET

It's a just perl script so you don't need to compile it. I found a summary of how to use it on a windows system which you would have found it too if you had just googled: using chaosreader :rolleyes:

http://www.windowsecurity.com/articles/Studying-Network-Activity-Using-Chaosreader-Tool.html

Have fun.

Uhhhhhhh dudes, i remember college teacher saying something about not using wireshark... is it true? Can u use it and be safe with it?

Or do ISP and networks give you problems if you start using wireshark?

depends on the network, and the willingness of them to scrutinize their network security. Depending on how you go about your sniff you can easily give yourself away. just be smart, be aware.
