Not too sure how much light it is receiving but I used to work in a nursery that propagated and grew Sarracenia sp. in a shade house. If they received too much sun they would crisp up and dry out. Just a thought......

Wow I came in late on this thread. You say both plants are given the same conditions - did you just take the Sarracenia out from a tray of standing water for the picture? The tray is almost indispensable for growing CPs especially outdoors. I would give that thing a little bit of shade, a tray, and ample water until it recovers. The pot size does seem small on the Sarracenia too. I would transplant it to get a look at what's going on under there and to give it a bigger pot which will resist drying out better. 50/50 peat/perlite or peat/sand works well for me.

Yeah, I took it out of the tray just for the picture. Both plants get shady sunlight. I might try a humidity tent, but the soil in the pot is never close to dry and the air too is pretty humid here.

Apparently it's bye-bye Sarracenia.
The Dionaea is apparently doing fine though. There is definite new growth (but no red traps - only green). I worry about the winter, though. Keep it wet, always?
My Nepenthes (quite bigger but not pictured here - maybe I'll open another thread) is definitely thriving. New cup-buds abound!

Yes, keep it moist over the Winter and in a sunny position. It will slow down growth as the weather cools and will go dormant until the weather warms up again. Mine is just starting to grow new leaves since we have come into Spring.

The dionaea looks good.

The sarracenia looks dead and gone. With just one doubt - are the green leaves new sarracenia shoots or some unwelcome weed?

maybe your location could help understand if it's just dormancy or something else

I've got 2 sarracenia and those don't look anything like their shoots, I think that's a weed dude.

Agreed, that definitely looks more like a weed.
Which makes me think the soil was probably a bit too high in nutrients or to heavy.

Nice to see you fly trap recovered but no good to hear about the Sarracenia.
That weed looks like a baby dandelion or similar and it probably was blown in by some wind as their seed is dispersed in this manner.

Update.
Most of the large leaves/traps are dying or dead by now, but there is some new growth - it's spring after all!
I wonder if the thing on the long stalk is a dionaea flower bud or a weed.

You need to give venus fly traps their dormancy, otherwise they will eventually die of. If allowed to go dormant for the winter, they can live many years.
And yes, thats a flower bud. the flowers are not very showy, and its best to cut them off unless you want seed. better not to let the plant waste energy on them.
That said, I didnt cut mine off the first time I had them
good luck

What does it need to go dormant?
I kept it wet in winter, but it never moved from its place - outdoor but a little repaired - so I guess it got what it needed: presumably lower temps and shorter, darker days?
Now I've moved it to a spot with more light and on the south side, where it will spend the warm season. For overwintering I'll probably put it in a cold greenhouse.
As for the flower, it would be nice to keep just for the fun of watching it grow, but I did some homework and found out seeds are hard to handle and germinate, so I will cut it as you suggested. Thanks!

Colder temps/shorter days would do it. If you are in an area that doesnt really get cold enough for it, you can actually take them out of the pot and put them in the fridge for a while. I dont think its ideal, but better than nothing.
A good book I would recommend is The Savage Garden by Peter D'Amato.
He has a nursery in northern CA that is pretty amazing. well, the plants anyway.
good luck

Thanks for the tip! Just one day after I snipped the flower away, it looks to me like the traps are already growing faster. Or is that just my imagination?

It seems the traps really are growing faster. The dionaea likes its new place, definitely. She celebrated her moving to the new location by chomping on a mosquito
