Hello, I'm a new hunter. I'm attempting to absorb all i can from this awesome site. I would like some suggestions from any experienced hunter. Im hunting Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata.
About 3 years ago some friends took me to a place that had a ton of psilocybe ovoideocystidiata. It was a hill side covered in vegetation, wood debri, and trees. At the foot of the hill was a meadow then a small creek.
Last time i ate them i had a blast. Watched "Click" for 3 hours laughing so hard i was cring. ahhh good times. Any way's i would like to know if you think the weather has been okay in this area to make these little beauties pop up.
Here's a link to the area's weather for the past week. Tonight we had some nice thunderstorms. How long should i wait before i go hunting after the rain?
I've hunted twice this year already but the first time their wasn't any to be seen. The second time their were some but all dried up.
Also does time of day matter? evening morning noon? ect.
Thank you, Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thank's for the info. I though i would have to really "make" time to hunt today if it was a good day for hunting. But it turned out i had a couple hours. So i went out and i found a hand full. like 6 or 7. I'm sure their were more but i only got to search one small area because of time restrictions. I'm hoping it rains again tonight so i can give it one last shot before the season's over.
I did however see the biggest mushroom i've ever saw today while i was hunting. It wasn't on a tree or anything just growing straight out of the dirt. It looked like Alice's Caterpillar should of been toking up on of it. I'll be posting a pic later for I.D. It had maggots growing under it though so i couldn't keep it. Looked just like a massive bluefoot.

The only real advice I can give is don't give up. They are tough as shit to find IMO.

I wouldn't say you missed it, but depending on how far north you are, it may be too hot for the rest of the summer for them to fruit. If it does start to get a little chilly and rainy again, which it doesn't look like it will, but in the event that it does, then you can expect to see them popping up again. Time of day is no factor, but time after rain is. Depending on how long it's been raining for and the conditions beforehand, you can expect to start to see them popping up a day to 3 days after it has stopped raining. Two to three days after it's stopped is a good time to go hunting, as the mushrooms will have had time to fully develop for picking.
However, just because they may not appear this summer doesn't mean you can't scout out good habitats (if you've found them dried once, you already have a good idea of the habitats they like, and a place to check back again in the future!), and it also doesn't mean you won't be able to find them at all this year, since they do appear again in the fall as well when the temperatures start to drop.
Good luck in your future hunts, and when you do find them, be sure to take spore prints and lots of pictures as well!

I doubt that I'm what you would call an ovoid expert, but I have found a few handfuls in my time. Obviously flood plains are ideal spots. I also find that lots of box elder trees are a good indication of an ovoid habitat. Ovoid mycelium loves to colonize decaying box elder debris. I'm originally from the ohio valley. I now live in NE Kentucky. I've surely found careulipes up home and I believe there are ovoids in the ohio valley as well. Does anyone know a good time to start outdoor ovoid beds? I really haven't found the answer anywhere on the forums.
