HARTFORD - A Senate bill that would reduce the penalties for small amounts of marijuana in the state passed by one vote Saturday, with Senate President Nancy Wyman breaking a tied roll call vote.
The bill, Senate bill 1014, would make possession of under 4 ounces of amounts of marijuana punishable by a $150 fine for a first offence and $200 to $500 for subsequent offenses.
In his remarks on the senate floor, State Sen. Martin Looney (D, New Haven) said, "One of the things we have grappled with is an enforcement problem."
"There are many young people in this state who have had their lives blighted by drug addiction," he said. "There are also many young people in the state blighted by the consequences of a criminal conviction," which he said are "dispropportionate to the nature of the offence."
Opposition to the bill, led by State Sen. Toni Boucher (R, Wilton) centered largely around the classification of marijuana as a "gateway drug, several senators suggesting that the legislation "sends the wrong message."
"I get physically sick when I think about this issue," Boucher said.
"I'm very worried that we are sending a message that there are going to be some kids who are afraid to take that first hit, and we're going to take that fear away from them," said Minority Leader John McKinney (R, Fairfield). "Marijuana is a gateway drug unlike cigarrettes and unlike alcohol."
Senate President Nancy Wyman cast the deciding vote, breaking an 18 to 18 tie during a roll call. The bill, initially introduced by Sen. Donald E. Williams, now heads to the House for a vote, and then to Gov. Dannel Malloy.

He has a point, its obviously better to let a few innocent, unfortunate citizens of this fine country rot in a cell than risk "sending the wrong message" to our children. what an argument... you know if it weren't for all that mind control i'm not sure it would have held up so well for so long.

fear not education? sure that will work lie like shit to our kids about marijuana and when they find out it's not that bad they won't believe us when we tell them how bad crack heroin etc really is. marijuana is a gateway drug only because it is illegal.

So his justification for the billions spent on locking innocent people in cages is: to scare "some kids" into drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes instead of cannabis...........? fucking seriously?
"KEEP THE FEAR ALIVE!!!!! How can we stay at war if we're NOT AFRAID!?!?!?"
This guy's life must be utterly miserable. Rot in hell you stupid douche.

No steps closer. More like a sideways shuffle.
The Connecticut Senate has passed a bill that would decriminalize the possession. This occurred yesterday.
The Connecticut House, has not. When (if) they do, the Governor must still sign it into law.
The status of pot in Connecticut, is currently unchanged.

Anything that changes your state consciousness is a gateway drug... coffee, cigarettes, anything...
Remember spinning in circles getting dizzy as a little kid and seeing how high you could get before you got sick?
Sugar was supplied all through my childhood, it was the pure white shit straight from the laboratory. All my homies had it too. We used to dose up and run rampant, pissing in mailboxes, throwing ourselfs down hills, and being that annoying little brat kid you experience in public all the time. We quickly became extremely addicted, we could never get enough. The more we ate, the higher we got.
Alcohol was a substance that I stole from my parents at a really young age and said "if this is legal and it can fuck me up that much, im definitely missing out on all the stuff they don't want me to have"
