Paul Revere

He who warned the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms, uh, by ringin’ those bells and, um, makin’ sure as he’s ridin’ his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that were gonna be secure and we were gonna be free. And we were gonna be armed.---Sarah Palin on Paul Revere

Seriously?

OK, I asked my nine year old who was Paul Revere, and he knew.  So, they're teaching this in school by third or fourth grade.  People here have dedicated threads to praising Palin up and down.  She's an imbecile, but that doesn't seem to matter.

The story of Paul Revere is nice and all, but it is mostly fiction turned legend based upon a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Are you trying to tell us Palin got the details of Revere's ride incorrect? Think very carefully before you answer. As a matter of fact, I'll go further than that - I strongly suggest you Google Paul Revere and review the actual (not the fictionalized poetic myth of Longfellow's) details of this incident before answering. It'll save you beclowning yourself in public the way so many political pundits and media outlets have already done.

Too late.  Palin by knockout once again.  Here is a pretty long list of pompous blowholes who ridiculed Palin.

http://patterico.com/2011/06/03/does-it-ever-cross-their-mind-that-sarah-palin-might-actually-know-something/#more-59667

I wonder just which one of those ignorant yahoos Not Quite Social relies on.

Interesting.  So you agree with Sarah that Paul Revere was riding to warn the British that they couldn't have our guns?

Wow, how could all those commie-liberal textbooks have gotten it so wrong?  We all thought he was riding to warn Adams and Hancock that the British were coming to seize the colonists' arms.

I'm sure the Texas School Book Commission would love for Sarah to write new history books for them.  We all thought the 'shot heard round the world' was fired at Lexington, but Michele Bachmann got us straightened out on that error when we found out it was actually in New Hampshire.  Now Sarah has straightened out our misunderstanding of who Paul Revere actually worked for, the British.  Learn something every day.

Why don't you, instead of spouting false history, actually follow the links and read Revere's own words.  Here's another link:
http://conservatives4palin.com/2011/06/governor-palin-gives-the-media-a-history-lesson-on-paul-reveres-midnight-ride.html

Quote:

I observed a Wood at a Small distance, & made for that. When I got there, out Started Six officers, on Horse back, and orderd me to dismount;-one of them, who appeared to have the command, examined me, where I came from,& what my Name Was? I told him. it was Revere, he asked if it was Paul? I told him yes He asked me if  I was an express? I answered in the afirmative. He demanded what time I left Boston? I told him; and  aded, that their troops had catched aground in passing the River, and that There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up. He imediately rode towards those who stoppd us, when all five of them came down upon a full gallop; one of them, whom I afterwards found to be Major Mitchel, of the 5th Regiment, Clapped his pistol to my head, called me by name, & told me he was going to ask me some questions, & if I did not give him true answers, he would blow my brains out. He then asked me similar questions to those above. He then orderd me to mount my Horse, after searching me for arms.He then orderd them to advance, & to lead me in front. When we got to the Road, they
turned down towards Lexington. When we had got about one Mile, the Major Rode up to the officer that was leading me, & told him to give me to the Sergeant. As soon as he took me, the Major orderd him, if I attempted to run, or any body insulted them, to blow my brains out. We rode till we got near Lexington Meeting-house, when the Militia fired a Voley of Guns, which appeared to alarm them very much.

Revere's main purpose in making the ride wasn't to warn the British that the Colonists were alerted and ready to resist having their weaponry seized, no. But then, Palin doesn't say that was his main purpose.

:rofl2:

They quoted a letter he wrote that has been archived in the Massachusetts Historical society.  They provided a link to it.  They quoted the relevant portion verbatim.  It is on page 4.  Now I'm going to repost a quote from Aaron Worthing that I cited before:

Quote:

This is frankly a textbook case of someone believing their own propaganda.  They have spent the last few years convincing themselves that Palin is stupid and uneducated and they have forgotten that this simply isn’t true.  She isn’t dumb.  She’s just a down-to-earth woman with a funny accent.  And if you keep acting like she is dumb, you’re going to keep making yourself look stupid.

Send in the Clowns.  Apparently you prefer to limit your understanding of history to that which can be gleaned from a poem.

It's sad that in America this is taught even in primary school but not here in the UK. I kept history as a subject up to my A levels, the American war of independence wasn't even mentioned to me once.
I wish I had greater insight to what happened.

This particular incident was exceptionally minor historically but became famous because of a poem.  Here in New York there was a young woman who made a much longer ride to call out her father's regiment when Danbury was attacked.  Her name was Sybil Ludington.

Now it's about the 'main' purpose of his ride.

The way Sarah phrased things, it was the only purpose, something which isn't borne out by history as even a foot note.  She made that shit up.

I never thought I'd find myself attempting to dumb down something Sarah attempted to portray, but here goes. I'm sure this is what her Karl Roveist handlers were trying to teach her to say, but she fucked it up.  The message we were supposed to get would go something like this:  "Paul Revere is the GOP.  The British are the Democrats.  Along comes (I hire helicopters to fly me over animals so I can shoot them from the safety of my seat) Sarah, to keep us safe from the Democrats who want to take away our guns".  It's just that she's too retarded to pull it off.  They really need to stick to teaching her to memorize one-liners, like they had to do with Bush.

Never mind that gun laws have actually been relaxed since Bush left office, and 'taking away our guns' is not even being talked about, let alone considered.  However, speeches by the GOP about Dems taking away our guns get lots of votes in any district where Mountain Dew outsells mineral water, or where it takes 32 people sitting in a circle to make a full set of teeth.

Apparently the GOP wants their base to think Obama, with a stroke of the pen Bill Ayers gave him as a Ramadan present, is going to overturn the US Constitution, and then unleash the Weather Underground with Jessie Jackson in command, to come take away all our guns.

How do you know how Sarah phrased things? The media hasn't let us see how she actually phrased things, they instead released an obviously edited clip giving just the latter part of her response. We have no way of knowing what she said before that point. They start the clip partway through her answer.

But even though the only clip of her comments on Revere the media has made available has been edited to catch her in mid answer (eliminating both the question put to her and the first part of her response), everything she says in that clip is still factual. No amount of your armchair Amazing Kreskin mindreading routine purporting to reveal her motivation for answering as she did can change that fact.

And yes, RR, it is a fact.
