I think humanity has a pretty good chance of surviving.  I mean look how far we've come in just the past 100 years.  Imagine 300 years from now.  Shit son we'll have some crazy ass technology.

Humanity as it is, is already dying out.

Be optimist people! We are gonna make it.

Technology is getting better every day.

Space travel will be possible eventually, we'll find other planets to fuck up. Its all cool

I think our species is damn near ineradicable.

Could something happen that would kill 50% of us? Yes.
99%? ... Maybe.
100%? ... No fucking way.

People would survive by sheer luck and force of will. They would breed. Humanity would continue. Might our progress be delayed a bit? Absolutely. But we're gonna give the cockroaches a goddamn run for their money.

This. Nothing, barring the sudden and unpredicted explosion of the entire planet Earth, could possibly ensure the complete eradication of the human race. Our intelligence makes us like cockroaches, I'm pretty sure.

When I say humanity I mean the way we humans live as a whole, which right now is pretty much all about satisfying personal desires with reckless abandon.

We humans as a whole don't live any certain way. My friend has an iPad and a $5000 coffee maker. His main concern in life is his credit score. People in Libya eat the hearts of children to gain courage when they attack each other with machetes. It's already a hodgepodge of non-overlapping lifestyles.

Most of humanity does not live this way. It's actually a pretty small proportion of living humans who are able to take such luxury as we have for granted. The vast majority of people in the world are dirt farmers and peasants. The USA is honestly like an entire nation of royalty.

Oops, I meant Liberia. Saw it on Vice Guide to Travel. Check that shit out if you want to be made overwhelmingly appreciative of where you live.

Depends on what you mean by hope

If we can keep on long enough to get technology that would allow us to spread throughout the universe then we would be around for a while

Who knows what will happen, its not like life depends on the success of earth

Humans will survive. There are so many of us at this point that even apocalyptic scenarios (thermonuclear or biological war, depletion of resources etc.) are unlikely to lead to the destruction of the human race. People are like rats, they breed and they fight but it's nearly immpossible to get rid pf them all. The will to survive is strong in humans, it's what keeps people fighting even in the face of certain death. Even when a person has no cards to play, no hope of survival many will still fight to the last breath.

As far as biological warfare goes it really depends on the organism

It would probably have to be viral, have a long incubation period, extreamly lethal, quickly mutating, and travel through other species

I have no doubt that nanomachines could wipe out humanity

Atomic warfare could definitely destroy us, it is capable of destroying the atmosphere. Without an atmosphere we would be fucked by both the sun, space debris, lack of oxygen, water leaking into space, and of course the radiation from the bombs themselves
