indoor gym cultivation

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried anything like this.
I've had this log for the last few years which has been the one and only gym spot I've ever had. Never found them anywhere else on my own. Well, I'm pretty sure the wood is maple and it's gotten to the point where it's pretty well decayed.
Stopped there today and I was surprised to see a small gym already on a piece from this log. Last couple years I didn't see them until August. My hopes haven't been too high for this year's gym crop. I actually had to move a few pieces of this log to another part of the property. So I figured I'd just take this piece with the gym home with me.
I'm considering doing something along the lines of cutting the wood into 2 pieces, being careful not to disturb the gym, fitting it into a terrarium that I have, keeping it in my sunroom (which isn't really TOO sunny) and misting regularly.
Would this work possibly? If I can get a bunch of full grown gyms out of it without really having to worry about bugs that would be great. Should be able to post up a pic shortly. Just wanted to start the thread for now.
I mean I know of someone who fruited shiitake on his kitchen counter so this doesn't seem too different.

Wow. Beautiful gym grow. Thanks for posting that link!
I think my situation is a little different though since I don't actually have any spores yet. Just the one mushroom that still hasn't opened.
I'll have to read that through later on when I have more time. I've still yet to do a successful grow from scratch but I suppose there's always hope as long as I keep everything good and sterile.

Hey whatever happened with the log? I'm in a similar situation. I found a log and got some killer lutes off of them and I'm unsure what to do with the log I found them on. It's surely not going to last the winter.

You will find with many species that where it lies is the best place for it. Nature is the best cultivator if all time.It is possible but most keep logs out side and dunk them to promote fruits.
To make your own gym log get spores on agar, isolate, Noc up grain, transfer to sawdust, and inoculate in the standard shiitake tek.
