The right to be healthy
    #14560555 - 06/04/11 03:16 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Is there one? Does it need to be enforced like the right to free speech and all that jazz? :strokebeard2:

Hold that thought. Maybe once all the drugs are legalized we can talk about something like that. The right to be healthy w the current 'health' industry? Yeah right..

In any case ppl should have the right to be unhealthy if they want but having optimum conditions and treatments provided would be nice.

Being healthy shouldn't be a right. Otherwise we wouldn't be able to weed out all the people with fat genes.

where is somebody born with cystic fibrosis or progeria or harlequin baby syndrome's right to be healthy?

who's violating their rights, nature? the laws of chance? their parents for carrying the genes?

That's a good point. Apparently, the chances of a birth with it is 1/300000, which seems like quite a lot.

I don't think there is any specific "right" to be healthy.

One has a right to with their body what they please, inasmuch as they are not impinging on the rights of someone else.

So, in possessing the right to do what you damn well please with your own body, you can then be healthy or unhealthy.

I think that healthfulness falls under the umbrella of "the pursuit of happiness." So yes, health is a human right, according to the U.S. constitution.

ahh but you see good sir, those aren't actually rights. what they really are is privileges. and privileges can be taken away.

natural disease and genetic defects would be mother nature doling out suprise buttsecks. You cant really avoid that but if there was a right to be healthy, resources, medicine, therapy, would be given to them free of charge to maintain there health as best as possible with current treatments and whatnot. At least thats what I see as the type of rights that would fall under the right to be healthy.

Nutritious food is cheap, but only if you've got the hookups - IE a kitchen to store and prepare it in.

That's pretty much how this society is. Live a possessions-based existence or wither and die.
