Pasteurizing wood
    #14558842 - 06/04/11 04:17 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I am growing some Shitaki and might try fruiting on wood chips? Just a couple of questions. Is sawdust necessary? I guessing it fills up the gap and makes colonization easier/quicker.

Also I don't have a filter patch bags, and my jars are being used atm. So pasteurization of wood can be done, but is it good practice. I'm using wood chips not straight sawdust. Or is sterilizing better?

I immagine wood takes a while to colonize? So sterilization is better?

Otherwise I'll try fruiting to straw.

RR recommended saw dusts with low supplementation. Do some searches on RR's shiitake grows and i'm sure you'll find good info :bigjoint:

I have FINALLY written up a couple teks as to how SHP has done things in the past. DISCLAIMER: This is not for the newbie to mycology, and not going to work for everyone! This is simply what works for one person when other teks and methods have failed miserably!
