hi guys,
im after guidance to create an active friendly garden... i know they grow in my area, i just have to give them the right starting point. im in australia, central victoria if that helps.
is laying wood chips and pine tree mulch enough? what can i do to improve the beds for actives to grow on their own?
obviously ill have to introduce spores to the garden, but how should i go about that? take spore prints from wilds and just spread them with a watering can just as season starts? im planning to start a grow shortly, so ill spread my finished cakes on the garden too.

hey chicken nipples, interesting name.. :P I don't know shit about outdoor grows but I would say if your going to use spores from wild mushies use an agar tek to isolate a clean strain.

thanks casual, honestly cant think of how i come up with it, just come to me one day while i was thinking of a funny name for a PS3 game.
im taking spore prints right now of wild cubes, just to see if i can because iv never done it before, but i doubt ill use them for a indoor grow.
but i wouldn't see much of a problem to spread a wild print, without an agar tek, in a garden [already far from sterile] or would contam' of the print still be a issue?

You could try and see about outdoor woodlovers, check out this url, you will get unreal, super potent shrooms, but they take a long time to fruit, but if you check the maps and your climate is inline, they are a possibility fo outdoor cultivation: Psilocype-Azures
There are other outdoor teks as well, but if you have time and the climate is right for you, I'd start a patch of these babies.

Hello Sir How is the weather in Australia? What type of actives do you have growing in the land down under?
if you collect some wild specimen, Take spore prints and/or tissue sample. You can start some mycelium growing very easily by taking a small portion of the stem and sandwiching it between wet cardboard. .
You can try to make a spore mass slurry with your watering can and it should work out or if you want to really get into it you can grow out some mycelium in grain jars or pf cakes and use that as spawn. i would use a lot of spawn/spores to increase the chance of success.
Make a bed out of 50% woodchips and 50% sawdust and place it in a shady location that gets plenty of water. You can also water the bed yourself to make sure the patch doesnt dry out. It would not be a bad idea to have the mushroom bed sunken into the ground about 3-4-5 inches.
Sorry for rambling Good luck, do lots of reading and take lots of pictures

cool, thanks guys.
iv got a bed about 3meters long, already with dead plants in it, so i reckon ill tear them out and try there. saw dust i can get from work in 44gal drums so ill hook one of them up, and ill just buy a load of wood chips.
for the sake of interest, i might try that wet cardboard idea and grow some myc. if that works, ill use a few shrooms from this season and try a few cardboard grows and put that in the garden. at worst, i waste a handfull of shrooms, and get rid of some of the cardboard boxes we have from moving into the new house. im looking to start my first indoor grow shortly, so maybe i should just make a few extra jars up for the garden instead of the cardboard, more likely to succeed, no?
our weather is up the shit this year, after a 10year drought, this year we've had devastating floods, record breaking rains and practically no summer [in comparison to every summer iv known].
around my area psilocybe cubensis is what grows wild, so id like to just stick with that, because its proven.
right-o, im gonna search some outdoor grows, honestly, i didn't UTFSE lol

iv started, a week or 2 ago i got a 44gal drum of dust/shavings and dug that through a bed in my backyard [different bed]. its about 6'x6', and 8" deep. great soil, im pretty sure it was once a well maintained veggie garden.
im supprised how far 44gal went, the bed is packed! and iv still got another 44gal drum worth, in bags, in my shed waiting. id also like to go get some horse manure and/or cow patts to mix through.
dad has a mulcher, so im going to make my own wood chips up [chips aint cheap!], but what sort of wood should i use? i guess gum trees would be fine?
im going to rig up a little shading cloth over the garden and dropping down the sides to the ground, because i reckon it'll get too much sun, and my gf's west highland terrier loves the saw dust... might keep the humidity up if i misted the cloth, out of season, and get some extra grow time? dunno, pure guess work at hand here...
last question for now... what smaller plants would grow happily with the shrooms?
as for the above post, i dont know why i said cubes, they're subs, DUH!
i should be starting my ohmatic mono tub grow soon, i just gotta find some spore prints and ill be ready to go. once im onto them, ill make up a jar or 2 extra and throw that into the garden, maybe it wont be ready, maybe ill get lucky.
