i've heard that high humidity causes short stubby mushrooms which all of mine are so far but the caps are splitting also which i heard is a result of low humidity.
also i hardly have any shrooms like 6 total on 5 cakes non of witch are growing at the same rate wtf is going on i followed the pf brf teks on here exactly and im getting really shitty results. Its kinda pissing me off considering all the hard work i put into these things seriously i treat them as if they were my children.
no camera yet.

Everyone on here can understand a frustrating grow. The hobby is best pursued by diligence though. If you were planning on your first grow exploding, then you might have set your sights a little too high.
Personally, I think pictures would help best with your dilemma..

see there are SO MANY variables you have to account for.. it's not the method most likely. Some strains do better on future flushes and the first is crap. Some don't do well with JUST brown rice, they require manure for best results. IF you posted pictures I could probably help you out. I need to be able to see your setup and what you are working with.

Don't take it so hard. I just had 4 6-qt mini-tubs crash and burn before even pinning - so it's back-up time for me. You'll get there, and when you do it'll be all the sweeter for the failures.

its a crap shoot on some grows, while other grows just take off and go and dont seem to stop.
personally i only use cakes to test lc's, they just arent 100% reliable for me all the time.
you'll find something that works brah. we all did.
hell some of us are still searching.
keep up your hard work and dont let it get you down.

Is there any color changes near the stems or on the cake? Is it the same with all of the cakes from the same syringe or different syringe same results?
Recently I ran into this problem. I had same syringe but different results. I noticed the ones with little to one mushroom were because I pulled them out of the jar after pinning had started and for some reason they didn't start. Or it was way after knotting. The 3 cakes out of 11 I pulled out of the jar after knotting had started had mushrooms all over on all sides and good sizes. Could be genetics but if you get different results from the same 'gene pool' than something is wrong with your introduction to fruiting conditions.

It does not. Incorrect moisture control, lack of light, or poor strain can lead to short stubby mushrooms.

I'm curious where you're getting that information. Split caps are not a sign of low humidity. Cracked, reptile-like caps are a sign of low humidity. Split caps can be due to rapid growth or disease such as verticillium. RR

RogerRabbit said: If you're certain it's verticillium, they don't recover. You must carefully pick the fruits, then remove them without allowing the spores that are on the mold to become airborne. This usually is best done by wrapping the infected fruits in tyvek or plastic before taking them to the trash outside.
Never water or mist fruits that have vert contamination because this sends the spores into the air. You'll need to clean your FC very well before the next cropping cycle. The key to preventing vert contamination is air exchanage, just as with other imperfect fungi, they thrive in still, stale, moist air. They also thrive in warmer air, so you might try reducing the temperature on future crops.
On your next crop, be sure to leave the lid on the FC loose so it's open all the time. You can also drill holes all over the surface of the FC on all six sides to provide for air exchange between fannings. Moving to a coolmist for a tub type FC is not an upgrade. Perlite is best for small fruiting chambers. If humidity is higher than you wish, simply increase air exchange, but leave the perlite.
I'd suggest posting a picture because often water damage from drips falling from the lid are mistaken for verticillium, when in fact it's just water damage. You might try misting with peroxide to see if the entire fruit turns to a fizzing ball of slime, which is what you'll get if verticillium OR cobweb(Dactylium) is colonizing the fruitbody. The peroxide is not to 'cure' the mold but only to help identify it. Often the stipes tend to split on their own without molds being present. RR
