I've herd about "runners high" from a lot of people, my father ran everyday for years and years at least 8 miles and he would rave about the feeling. I personally have never enjoyed just going out, might have to try it again though. Sounds like an awesome feeling!

I was doing a good job at getting that high before I got hurt.

I was doing the stuff I mentioned in this thread. I would sprint back and forth and then immediatly drag 3 cinderblocks with a chain, rest 60 seconds, then sprint back and forth and then carry 2 cinder blocks back and forth, rest 120 seconds and and then do 40 pushups and 20 burpees.

It was a great feeling! I cant wait to get back into it.

I want to start practicing hand stands and eventually work up to walking on my hands. I am going to concentrate on body weight exercises (other than squats, deadlifts, and clean and jerks). I think that may prevent me from getting hurt in the future. I have to look out for my body.

This is right up my alley. I have been practicing handstands an body weight stuff for awhile now and love it. I am able to now do a lot of handstand push ups and things like that, I really am just looking to be a master of my body in all aspects.

Yo I will definitely remember that. Maybe when I heal up you can give me some pointers on hand stands?

I did find some information out on handstands. I hear that you are supposed to put your weight through your fingers to balance, instead of your palms.

I was thinking after my shoulder heals I would start out by (first rehabilitating) simply holding a handstand against the wall for as long as a can. I also saw videos of people resting their legs on a surface and isolating their torso(legs parallel to the ground, torso perpendicular). They would work up to hand stand pushups by doing exercises like that.

How do you recommend that I should work up to doing full hand stand pushups? Please remember that I have to pay close attention to detail since my shoulder has been through alot.

There are two or three sets of videos. I liked one of them alot. A gymnist is giving instructions on how to do them.

Click the link and then go to exercises and demos

Running long time is kinda pointless? I mean.. cmon if your going to put that effort do some damn weight, whether its body weight, kb, or normal shit. Yea it could be a high. but really? What im saying is.. if your going to put time into it. Put time into something that will not only make you stronger but will up your chances with the female species.

In HS i did a mile in 5:28 . cooool. then. not now. Getting your self confidence up is awesome. But do something about your physical outlook, cuz that will improve your chances dramatically at find the choice mate of life.

I hate this outlook.

Just because someone likes cardio exercises automatically means that they don't train for strength too?

please

To me it's about finding that perfect middle ground between the two.

Its true that muscles definitely help, but some people can run 10 miles and still have a excellent mass. My best friends ex girls brother who is named Jimmy is an example. He just graduated high school and he is a BEAST. He is about 6'4 and his has the mass to go with it. Along with that he runs marathons and squats 400 pounds. I was impressed.

Plus some girls dig on toned men with small amounts of body fat. And then some girls dig on chubby guys. I just talked to a cute girl who said she liked guys with chub:confused:. She said she liked little man boobs! lol!! I also talked to my ex's cute lady friends and they said that if a nice guy asks them out, that they would probably go on a date even if he is chubby or thin. They said they were looking for funny, nice, and mannered. A gentleman.

I like to keep a happy medium. Plus you gotta look at it this way. Primal humans did not lifts barbells and dumbbells. They were shaped only by their daily activities. Maybe women are attracted to that.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Thats how it goes right? lol

Exactly

At 6 foot 195 pounds I feel I have the perfect amount of muscle mass, and don't really feel the need to pack on any more muscle.

I am now trying to get really into running because when you have strength plus stamina...well it's just :awesome:

I hate seeing guys that just bulk the fuck out. So pointless. What is the use of being big and strong if you can't even run half a mile?

The thing that gets me about this post is how negative it is.  I could never see myself telling someone not to do what they want to do to stay healthy.  Running, lifting, or even something as simple as not eating fast food.  If a person wants to be healthier I am all for it.
Another thing that is ignorant and is irritating me is the poster has obviously never ran distance.  The farthest I have ever ran is right around 10 miles and I have never been so soar the next days.  My core was torn to shreds.  Also consider the mental fortitude it takes to make it through the pain/pleasure roller-coaster of distance running.
Anyone can lift weights and they will see results eventually.  The amount of dedication it takes to run distance amazes me.  Don't get me wrong I respect people that are "buff".  I know it takes a lot to build muscle.  I do however have a whole different level of respect for people who run distance.
Regarding the female of the species, I am fairly sure that do women enjoy the cardiovascular endurance that runners have...
I need to end this rant before I get too upset, lol

Yeah Dshow, that was a very ignorant post.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again. I HANDS DOWN respect someone that can run an Ultra or an ironman more than any but the worlds best lifters. I think mental endurance and stamina is a greater trait than physique, although i realize lifters also have mental tenacity, it is not the same as that of a distance runners. More importantly, I think the body a distance runner has is more suited to enhancing daily life, than that of a body builder.

Using attraction of the female sex as a reason to workout is the weakest argument against running i've ever heard.

At the end of the day i know i can run farther and faster than pretty much everyone i am around, nearly all the time and it feels great. I can still deadlift 355lbs.

*Shrugs.*

Im a little bit pissed off about that post and can't fully express myself in words right now.

Thats a nice deadlift PDU.

I could only hit 280-290. But I am still pround. Because a year ago I could only do 200.

I hope in a couple more years I can get up to 350 or more!

As soon as my arm heals (hope to god no surgery) I want to get back into crossfiting. I cant wait to do my clean and jerks. Seriously my fingers are itching to go hook grip around a barbell!! AHHHHH!!

This is a great response to a thoughtless statement! A normal functional human being is not as we perceive; today magazines and the media put a flawed aspect on what "in shape" is supposed to look like. To be fit you don't need a 6-pack and a set of bi's; that being said if you want to achieve that look then there's no problem with that at all.

As far as women go... If you have a mouthpiece and are able to use it, it doesn't really matter what you look like. I've been fat, ive been skinny, I've been ripped and I've been massive. Getting the girl is always about talking the talk from my experience.

I'll look for some of the stuff I used on handstands by the way. Was going to reply sooner but just got really caught up in life yesterday!

Well guys. I am back at it!

I believe I pinpointed my injury and I have been training accordingly. I took the advice of a doctor of physical therapy I was able to reach through Lou Schuler. The advice was that if there is no pain at week 4 to proceed and do some light pulling exercises. I did just that.

Here was my workout today.

Superset with full  rest
3 sets of 10 dumbbell rows. 20 lb dumbbells. 90 seconds rest.
3 sets of reverse crunches. 90 seconds rest.

50 deadlifts. 20 lb dumbbells.

superset with full rest.
2 sets of 5 static lunges. 20 lb dumbells. 90 seconds rest.
2 sets of 15 second "reverse planks". 90 seconds rest.

Reverse planks(or whatever they are called) is when I lay on my stomach and exaggerate the arch in my back, hold my legs off the ground and hold my head off the ground. A light core exercise.

Anyways..

I made sure to use extended periods of rest since I have not worked out in 4 weeks. I had absolutely no pain. I had no discomfort and I had a great time. I cant even tell you how good it felt to do those 50 deadlifts. I got my ass whooped being as out of shape as I am. My legs were cramping and it was hard to walk!!

I am going to wait 2 more week before I even think about doing rehabilitative push exercises. If I feel better I am going to start by pushup progressions starting with pushing away from a wall.

DAMN! It feels good to sweat!!!:lol::rofl::cheers::stoned:

I work at a horse farm part time, and about once every two months we get a shipment of about 500-600 bales of hay. Today was one of those days.

Stacking that shit in a dank, nasty shed for hours on end is more of a workout than anything else I have ever done in my life. Jesus Christ.

Alberta got hit with some floods, and my company drove me 15 hours out here yesterday to get a piece of the action.

I'll be doing straight demolition work for 12-14hr days 7 days a week or the next week or 3. Ie. removing wet carpet, underpad and drywall - entire basements worth. It's a hell of a work out!
