None.
Though I hear from outside sources that the Coast Guard is pretty cushy, travel around the world to exotic locations (sometimes), best food in the armed forces, good pay, low chance of seeing crazy action or killing people, you are mostly saving people. This was from a guy in the air force though.

BAD CHOICE.
15,000 bonus is just not worth it. it should only be used as a LAST option.
youll make about $9 an hour and work for the military complex. minus the fact that youre helping people kill others, you will just have a bad job and no source of getting things done. i can make it making $9 an hour but ie i sell things on craigslist and ebay and can do small jobs like paint or roof.
15 years ago they gave out 30,000-40,000 sign up bonuses.
this speaks a lot about what theyre doing here.. gas was under a buck a gallon of milk was $1.25
$9 an hour is x 1000

lmao... all these hippies giving advice about joining the military is like... vegans telling me what cut of steak to eat
military isnt a bad life choice.. if u can stick it out for a decade atleast youll get a pension and lots of benefits.... 20 years mean ur set for life.... go coast guard or navy if u like seeing the world and dont want to do to much manual labor.
do what makes you happy, fuck these hippies

Hippies, LOL. I'd be surprised if 10% of the people in this thread are 'hippies'. I've got mixed feelings about the military. I know a few people who served and enjoyed it, got something out of it. I know one who was a sniper and killed like 300+ people and now he's all fucked up in the head. The rest either despise it or are dead so I can't really get their opinion on the situation.
Military defending our freedoms? That's a big fucking joke. When's the last time America was attacked and the military defended us? Oh Vietnam right, or was it Korea, or Panama, or Iraq, or Afghanistan? When is the last time our military defended our constitution? Last I checked they are paid goons to protect opium fields and oil.
We're the ones jetting around the world murdering other weaker countries with our superior firepower, they need militaries to defend from us. Get it right.

This thread is fucking stupid.
If you go into the military you're a fucking .
Have at it; separate yourself from those who understand.

I have two friends, a guy and a gal that joined the Air force. Both have made careers out if it and have traveled to many counties. I haven't talked to either of them in a couple years but they both seemed happy last time I caught up with them.
Also joining the military was the last thing I ever thought they would do when I knew em prior. Can't be that bad retirement from the service sounds pretty good later in life.

i like hippies just as much as i like cops
if the military still gave huge bonuses i would join..
15,000 is a lot when you think about it.. but you can get a better job from doing 6 month course for a trade easily
i dont see the appeal
america has all of the worlds wonders pretty much
and the WWW has many cool vids/pics of wonders..

"Hippies", being stereotypically pacifist, generally show more respect for human life than the group they are set apart from. To take that and say that they are assholes because they disagree with those who choose to perpetuate war is to say that they are assholes for dreaming of a better world, even if their dreams may seem unrealistic to you.
I just don't like it when people basically say, 'Fuck you and your beliefs, they're over there killing to defend your right to say that they should not kill' That just makes no sense to me; defeats the purpose of saying it in the first place. I know that the military will not go away soon and realize that some of the things that they do are good, even humanitarian. At the core however, if you truly see all people as equals, is a destructive mentality which places politics over a basic respect for life. It could easily be the end of us all if we do not manage to rein it in.
Maybe I wouldn't be saying this if I were brought up in the middle east, or even 1950s America. I am not totally naieve; at different points in my life have considered joining the military myself, and I have friends that I respect very much who are in active service. I do feel that there is a better way and I would rather be killed by a terrorist than accept the fact that things could not be better for us all, if we were only to learn to accept one another.
Personally, I don't think that the military would be the worst thing for me, or many others, but in the big picture I would be feeding into a system that I fundamentally disagree with. This is why I say that it would not be worthwhile to join, not because I have any hatred in my heart for those that do.

Thinking about joining the military because you'd like to travel may be a bit deluded. You'll of course travel but in a commanded environment, military isn't about wandering through new countries and there are other ways of doing it without killing that country's civilians for example. As to doing something worthy with your life, if you do believe in perpetuating war then you're definitely on the right track.

Maybe being a flight attendant could be a better option, and there's no murder involved, unless you're into that sort of thing OP.
