Amazing detail on those gills (pic 6), is it Entoloma?

Gotta love the short fun hunts. :smile2: I did one today between shopping.

I am still trying to work it out actually it was on the same tree as those Mycena, I can see more now from the photos than I could at the time it was getting pretty dark, when I took those.  I couldn't actually see the little one in that photo before I took it.  Was going to try and take more but there was a mass leech attack. :frown:

Awesome work on a mid shopping hunt, I must say.

Great pics  Very enjoyable to look at, both from a photographic and a mycological viewpoint.

Thanks Koraks, I was happy with these few. I took so many that turned out horribly though, as I was rushing so much due to failing light.  Oh wells, I will have more time on the next hunt.

Absolutely amazing snaps man.
What equipment are you using?

Thanks a heap

Canon eos 1000D  and Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro lens.  I have good and bad days, hehe. I am still very much learning the art of photography.  I really need to buy a flash gun at some point, and stop being lazy with my other equipment.  I have a tripod that doesn't get used and some homemade reflector/diffuser stuff gathering dust under my bed.

Nice lens! I never shelled out the cash for a dedicated macro lens. Instead, I make do with some extension tubes and a cheap 50/1.8mkII.

Yeah it's odd I nearly spent more on the lens than I did on the camera.  It suits the stuff I like to photograph well though.  I have actually been trying to find out if extension rings will make much of a difference with that lens.  It's the stuff I can't see or don't notice that I really want to photograph if that makes sense.

Oh, extension tubes will go like a house on fire with that lens. You'll need to come up with some clever light sources though; ideally a ring flash, but other (cheaper) solutions are conceivable as well. Getting focus right is going to be even more of a challenge, and focus stacking will become a sheer necessity, even when stopping all the way down to f/45 (or however far the 100macro goes).

Ah ok cool.  I figured this would be the case I have always just seen them referred to as an alternative to a macro lens, so I had some niggling thought that they wouldn't work well with one.

You can even add a filter-type screw-on compensation lens on the 100 and use it with extension tubes...you'll be well within the realm of microscopy
