friut and flowers .
    #14548663 - 06/01/11 11:38 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

hello all , i would like to pick the brains of some of you regarding flower and friut production .
i only have one {DELETED} that gives me a single flower per year, i have since bought two more as cuttings and expect they will flower next summer or the one after that as they will be sending roots instead of doing much else for a while .
the one that flowers is 90cm tall . have any of you ever seen a friut from any species of ? if so how big do they have to be to achieve this?
:Awemush:

Most if not all active Trichocereus are self-sterile meaning that they must be crossed in order to produce fruit and seed. You can usually pollinate them with fresh pollen of any species or hybrid in the Echniopsis/Trichocereus genus. If you'd like to get seeds this year, look into acquiring a or pollen from a flowering Echinopsis when your Trichocereus flowers.

You should be aware that if your new pachanoi cuttings are clones from the same parent as your current one then they won't be able to pollinate each other.

I've seen fruit on several species and hybrids and the answer is that it depends on the specimen. But if they are flowering, they should be able to produce fruit given that an acceptable pollinator is available.

All of the active Trichocereus have the same white flower color with the possible exception of Trichocereus tulhuayacensis (K337) which is said to have mottled pink flowers but there is no activity data on.

Grafting won't influence flower color. Grafting for non-propagation purposes serves little purpose IMO. Grafting does not influence flower production much either from what I have seen, but it is possible that a mature flowering pachanoi stand could force a grafted bridgesii tip to flower as well.

Next time break up your questions into individual lines. It makes it much easier to answer them.

<---Correction: Self-fertile mean they can produce fruit with their own pollen.
