My hair is normally pretty thick and straight, but it's starting to curl a lot in the back and even the sides a little bit now that it's getting longer. My question is is this normal and will it straighten out when it gets longer? Right now I look totally retarded with my hair going straight down then curling out... If it won't fix itself when longer than what do I do to stop it from curling. I don't use any hair products other than shampoo/conditioner atm. Any other tips for someone growing out their hair for the first time?
a lot of peoples hair does the curl thing.
there are ways to keep it from getting curlier. i usually throw a skull cap on after showering and let it curl after that if it wants.
i dont really let it get that long anymore.
your hair is more likely "wavy" than "curly." which can be a pain to live with if you want long hair.
its perfetly normal tho.
try different things... only YOU can figure out what works for YOU though.

if i go to bed with even mildly damp hair i wake up with dreadlocks, plus a rastafari attitude.
conditioners/shampoos add volume n curl to hair, try normal soap.

you are all lucky with your long hair! I keep my hair shorter and put that little wave up in the front because I look way better that way..and every girl that has seen my hair always says I look a lot better with it shorter too. There is nothing I will change about myself or my appearance because of other people... except for my hair!!!
I just consider my hair like my own version of peacock feathers!

Eventually it straightens out. Sometimes, my hair makes a perfect curl that is a lock, kinda like Goldilocks'.
Since I toss and turn constantly in my bed, it dreads itself. I personally never touched mine when I had it grown out, well...I would comb out all the knots, but it would re-knot itself again. My hair would probably be around my waist by now if I didn't cut it.

You've just got to let it grow, man. I think there's some truth to hair growing faster if you trim it, but I'm not sure.
My hair is straight when short, but starts flipping out in the awkward stage you're in, and it just keeps curling. But if you let it get long enough, it starts to look better. I let mine grow for almost three years before I cut it recently.
The more weight it has, the more it'll settle down. But it won't really be "straight."

i used to have realllly short hair when i was younger. i started growing it out in middle school. once it reaches your neck and jawline, it will start to curl and flip out. but when it grows past that point, down to your shoulders, it will start to straighten out. however im a girl, maybe it would be different for guys ? ahha

I haven't had long hair since the 70's It was always kinda frizzy and didn't work well in a ponytail. The past 10 years or so I shave my head in the spring and no need for shampoo or a brush for months. Now that my hair is grey and thinning, I'm going to try that aged hippie ponytail thing. It still curls at the collar and is a pain in the ass on hot or windy days. We'll see... . . .
