2nd flush, nonfully colonized bulk

So my friend didnt realize his bulk grow would start to pin as soon as he added a light. It was mostly colonized, but there were parts that weren't. It had a pretty decent first flush, then started to get a little blue. He believes its from loss of moisture. He dunked it for a while, so hopefully it should start to recover.
However, should he turn the light off and let the uncolonized parts colonize, and then turn the light back on, or would that not even work? Or should he just keep the light on and see if he can get another flush or two from whats colonized?

hmm
i have my tubs colonizing in the same room as my fruiting bins and my tubs colonizing tubs dont start to pin until they are either at 100% colonization or i expose them to a bit more fresh air
im thinking that maybe your sub was at 100% which doesnt mean that it would have colonized the whole substrate but it could have run into a section that was already colonized by something else.

Just exposing a substrate to light, without adequate FAE and evaporation from the substrate, is not enough to stop colonization and/or initiate pinning. Many people colonize, consolidate, and fruit all in the same area with a 12/12 light schedule 24/7.
If the substrate did not fully colonize, it could be many different reasons... moisture problems, poor nutrients in the substrate, contamination at play, etc...
Looking forward, after the dunk, put the substrate right back into fruiting conditions with LOTS of FAE to draw out all the water from the dunk, and there should be another flush within ~7-12 days.
hope this helps

Premature pinning has to do with fresh air / humidity, not light. But it's not a bad thing if you got a decent first flush as u say. Keep the humidity high for a good 3-4 days while the next flush pins. It's not about getting the tub to colonize further. That's not really an issue at this point. U just want a decently high RH for 2nd flush pinning.
Ryath is right that after the dunk you want to dry it out a hair with lots of fae, but then I'd get the RH back up for a while and let it pin. I've gone overboard with fae after the dunk before and gotten crap pinning due to low RH.
