Polyfill

Hi guys,
I am a bit confused on polyfill for monotubs.
I bought some polyfill (says for timber on it) and it seems to just be a paste, not a foam like in the pictures I see here for polyfill? Are there different kinds of polyfill, some work some don't or is it all the same stuff.
Also is polyfill simply a way to block contams but stil allow FAE? Could I not just use micropore tape?
My understanding of monotubs is that I get a container, poke 4 or so large 2-3" inch holes in it, fill with patezurised substrate, add spawn to substrate, seal holes with (normal tape?) keep closed and do not allow much FAE until fully colonised, open holes (change tape to polyfill?) and do not mist, move into light and flushing will begin?
Thanks guys for any help.

Polyfill is like cotton fluff, I don't know what paste you have. Polyfill is not really necessary for monotubs, it does little to keep contam spores out which wont be a problem as long as you give proper gas exchange and FAE. There are several ways to cut holes on a monotub. You can go (4) 1" holes about 1" above sub with another (4) 1" holes closer to the top. You can also do 1/4 holes 2" apart all around the tub and lid starting 1" above sub. Either way you will keep lid on until colonized then when colonized fan out air 3x a day and lightly mist surface of sub if not moist. Do not tape holes shut. You will need to mist as necessary.
-------------------- Evolution is Lamarckism in disguise. Adaptation never creates a new species or trait, but rather the new species/trait always existed within the parent DNA until circumstances allowed it to be activated. For instance, every wolf has the DNA for poodles, but that DNA would never be revealed without man selectively breeding for it.

Thanks for help, appreciate it.
So what you are saying is just leave the holes open, even during the colonization period? Sorry if I am misunderstanding you but is what I get from your post,
Thanks,

polly is a non-organic "cotten" like material. because its a not organic it cant harbor contams(within it), tho it can hold existing contams, and restrics tons of FAE and sum contams from intering your mono. its purpose is to contain C02 during colonizing not to prevent contams.
and... if you got past polly, for timber... then you got the wrong polly... lol. buy the polly fill you stuff in bears and such. good luck

Ah ok I see so polyfill from hardware stores is wrong. I should be buying from sowing supply stores? So is it just like cotton wool? Maybe where I am polyfill is not called polyfill as I cannot find this stuff anywhere?
What is the best alternatives for polyfill?
Thanks that is what I was wondering so holes are covered for the co2 build up rather than contam resistance..

You can buy those painter's overalls instead of messy animal stuffing. On the package it should read a .3 micron rating.

search "morning glory premium fiberfill" its a 5lb box of polly. you know, you can use micropore. but pollyfill is better, why? because when its time to fruit you loosin your polly for more FAE. but yea polly is deff, not to completely prevent contams, but it does a tiny bit, and mostly for C02. good luck!
