Sclerotia question with a tale of mystery
    #14552701 - 06/02/11 08:48 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I was lucky enough to get a atlantis and amazonian print sent to California where I live, but the sender became paranoid and took the id stickers off, So being a noob, the task of determining which print was which was very overwhelming and has been frustrating me for at least a couple years now.  Luckliy, I just had the epiphany that if I just germinate both an an agar plate and let them sit, the sclerotia will form on agar.  What irritates me is that I knew this a long time ago but I just forgot, and it goes to show what an effect greif and frustration can have on you, but anyways, how long should it take for a stone to form on agar?

Anyone recognize atlantis mycelium? Heres what I got going now . . .

This is the nicest one

this is also pretty good but its got a lot more sectors in it

And this one looks pretty good but its growing about half the speed of the others

I think the first one I'll put in the freezer ans save for later, the second I'll just let sit in the dish and see if any stones form, if they do, I'll take the good one out of the freezer and do just like dude above says, put half in some brf cakes and the other half in some rye grain jars. The third one I think I'll just scrap.

leftover grains after harvesting stones can be fruited as well. also yields more than brf. not strictly necessary to do what you suggested.

see I've never said it doesn't work, just that it's not strictly necessary.

I should have mentioned in the original post that I don't want to inoculate any bulk substrate until I have an aggressive, isolated strain of it, since the mycelium is the final product.  So that was the goal when I said I'd put one in the freezer.  Now I'm thinking I will not only let the second one sit, but I'll take a few sectors out of that top right area.

I ordered two prints from sporeworks, one atlantis, one amazonian, so it anyone has grow amazonian or atlantis on agar id like your opinion.

More pics soon . . .

ive never noticed a difference in the mycelium between different strains of cubensis other than some being more aggressive than others.
Unfortunatley as you know i have no experience with sclerotia producing species :'[ but if you let it sit on agar im assuming you would start sighns of stones about a week after the agar is fully colonized but as i said this is an estimation mushrooms are weird :mushroom2:

keep us updated :bigjoint:
