Panaelous Cinctulus: black spored look-alikes?
    #14551920 - 06/02/11 05:27 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Hello everyone! I had a question about look-alikes of Panaeolus Cinctulus that also have black spores. Are there dangerous, inedible, or unactive black spored mushrooms that appear similar to these banded mottle-gills? If so are these grass-bound or growing on woodchips? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I can't think of a single poisonous black-spored mushroom. coprinus sp. have black spores but I don't know of a banded one or mottle-gill. Inactive paneaolous, like P. foenesecii or pan olivacious are the closest look-alikes I know of the former with brownish-purple spores and the latter with no margin band

there can be inactive black spored "look alikes" if you are looking in cow fields. on lawns the only other black spores youll come across is Coprinellus sp.

neither are dangerous
