i live in california, and it rained all day yesterday, and today it has been on and off...i just want to know how long after it rains before i should go hunting? i've looked through the faq's and didnt come across anything about this...(mabey i wasnt looking hard enough...
It depends a bit. If it's been dry for a long time, then it'll take awhile for the mycelia to develop enough to produce mushrooms. It might be a week or two until you see the first mushrooms.
If it hasn't been really dry, then I usually find mushrooms up about 3 days to a week after the rains. There is also some dependency on the species of mushroom.
In general, wait a day or 3, then go out and see what you find. Keep track for yourself, and see if you can figure out for the mushrooms you're looking for how long it takes. Then let the rest of us know what you've found.
