This story isn't even showing up on most major news networks... After all, Sarah Palin did get a new dress.

we only heed words from the UN when they open the floodgates for our military into another country.

It will still take a year or two before a state legalizes, and probably at least 10 years after that for any federal move.

Sorry, but you can't topple our nation's favorite money machine in a few years.  It takes time.

This is really good news, really good news. Too bad the drug czar said that the report was "misguided", what did he mean by that?

It means he knows that they are right and has no sound rebuttal.

And an update on what the white house has to say...

Quote:

Update at 11:15 a.m. ET:
In response to the report, the White House Drug Policy says the adminstration efforts to reduce drug use "are not born out out of a culture war or drug war mentality, but out of the recognition that drug use strains our economy, health, and public safety."

The White House also says:

Overall drug use in the United States has dropped substantially over the past thirty years. The number of Americans using illicit drugs today is roughly half what it was in the late 70's.
There has been a 46% drop in current cocaine use among young adults over the past five years, and a 68% drop in the rate of people testing positive for cocaine in the workplace since 2006.
The potential production capacity for pure cocaine in Colombia has declined from an estimated 700 metric tons of potential cocaine production in 2001 to only 280 metric tons in 2009 —a 60% drop.
Legalization remains a non-starter "because research shows that illegal drug use is associated with voluntary treatment admissions, fatal drugged driving accidents, mental illness, and emergency room admissions."

Well, that's it... I've officially lost all hope for this country.

EDIT: I take that back (partly)... Cause there's still hope if we can get Ron Paul into office.

Drug addiction is a disease, so if we keep locking up more of these diseased crazies, the less disease there is.

:horly:

The government refuses to look at the root cause of drug use: people simply want to alter their consciousness, or relieve pain.  How do you eliminate curiosity or pain? You don't.  Of course this is nothing new to shroomerites, but it's fucking painful to watch our society behave like idiots because they are afraid of something they know nothing about.

I hate to be a buzzkill everybody but this report was released by the Global Commission on Drug Policy which is NOT a UN organisation.

Nothing too profound is going to happen instantly, but this is the spark that this bull shit drug war has needed to ignite.

I'm sure the U.S. government is going to give the rest of the world the middle finger, as the government works on privatizing prison systems, but as long as it's getting media exposure and/or polls on msnbc and CNN it will at least make people think.

On the way home from work today this document was being hailed on the republic talk radio network in my city, and Ron Paul was being championed as the Presidential candidate putting his foot down on this shit, and that show is live across the entire nation - so this small uprising is not complete vain by any means.
