Vermiculite too small?
    #14549720 - 06/02/11 07:13 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Hello,
I was able to buy LOTS or vermiculite very cheaply. The grains did too small though but I bought it anyway because it was so cheap.
So...is it possible to use the vermiculite in the following picture for something like BRF cakes?

p.s. What is shroomery's policy on bumping threads, there is a thread with the same subject, but if I post there it warns me it is an old thread, and if I post a new thread it warns me that there is already a thread of the same subject?

That's the grade I used for my cakes, and they colonized just fine. Held together outside of the jar just fine. Pinned just fine.

As long as you don't use the powdery stuff, you should be just fine brother.

That will work. I remember reading somewhere RR prefers fine because it retains more water because of increased surface area.

That stuff looks good. As said, small holds more water. Some verm is smaller, powder almost. That stuff provides no texture, so im not a fan, even though it holds more water. That looks like it will give a little texture though.
