Float Tek?

I've got a crazy idea, and would like to know why it wouldn't work, because I'm sure someone has to have tried it before.
Here's what I'm thinking:
1. PC some rye berries and put them into quart jars 2. Impregnate them and let em colonize 100% 3. Put each jar into a tray and let them consolidate 4. Put the consolidated product 'cake' into a tub filled with 33%-50% purified water 5. Watch them grow
The consolidated 'cake' will float and therefore would get all the water it ever needed, and with fresh air should grow really good right? With a simple lid, you'd not need Perlite or even misting.
I got the idea because I was soaking my rye berry cakes from my trays in my "First Grow" thread. They're just rye berries and nothing else, and float quite well.
...it seems to be to good to be true...whats wrong with this idea?

The myc can grow a bit into the water, and the low temp you need the water at is too chilly for them to fruit. I like this idea though lol

Okay, so you could simply make the water temp a nice 70 or so by using a heating pad or air conditioning depending on whats necessary?

Well, my three trays are just rye berries. Nothing else. They fruited and are on a second flush. It's just like putting it into a tray, but water instead.
Since mine fruited with nothing else added to the rye berries that came out of the quart jar, and I added no nutrition, I wouldn't need to add anything to the water either, right?

I'm saying I added no other nutrition them. My cakes as they are, floated well. So why the need to add nutrition to the water? That's what I meant.

ok. 1. the water won't be sterile as soon as you pour it in OPEN air into the the tub.
2. How do you think the thing is going to stay together? It's going to dissolve being in water that long.
3. They'll be over hydrated.
4. Hydro mushis (even pseudo-hydro) are a myth.
Also, why haven't you tried spawning to bulk w/ your grain? You'll get way better yields & not have to do anything crazy...

It might stay together, but it's not going to like being waterlogged.
