Presterilized spawn bags, how many lbs/mono?

Hey Shroomery,
I've got about 30 qt jars of rye incubating for this summer's first round of monos, but am soon moving to a new place where I won't be able to bust our my pressure cooker at will to crank out any more jars. Thus, I've decided to use presterilized spawn bags like these later in the season:
http://www.mycopath.com/fungi-bags%C3%82%E2%84%A2-wild-bird-seed-fungi-bag%C3%82%E2%84%A2-c-2_19.html
However, I'm not sure how many pounds of spawn I'll need for 1 mono. Usually, I use 5 qt jars. Anyone have an idea of what the density of rye/millet/wbs would be?
Also, since I have the choice of rye, millet, and wbs, would any one choice be preferable? I just always use rye 'cause I'm used to it...
Thanks, Snowman

Oh, and I use Damion's coir recipe (1 brick coir, 2 qts verm, etc.)

Alright guys.....last bump, I promise.
I just find it hard to believe that nobody knows how far one of these spawn bags can go....my guess is 4lbs per mono but really I have no idea.

At a 1:2 spawn to bulk ratio, 5 quarts of spawn will spawn to 10 quarts of sub. for a 4 inch substrate inside of a 10 gallon storage tote. Load your bags with 4 quarts of cooked grains, sterilize, and inoculate with one quart of fully colonized grain spawn. Once colonized, that will equal 5 quarts of fully colonized grains per bag. ONE BAG, ONE TUB!
Any one of those grains you'v listed above to have access to would make a fine grain spawn. My advise, go with the grain that's closest to you and cheapest. If rye's what you'r used to working with, there's really no need to switch grains unless any one of the fore mentioned grains is cheaper then the rye and more conveniently located.

I think his basic question is how many quarts in a 1 lb or 5 lb spawn bag, so he knows how many to order.
As a guess for every two quarts in your recipe I'd use a 1 lb spawn bag so for your usual 5 quarts, maybe a 3 pound bag would be that? It's just an educated guess though.

Thanks to both, but scatmanrav has it right. I'm no longer going to be preparing my own jars, and looking to order something instead.
Basically, I figure that a 3-4 pound bag is PLENTY for a mono. Just never seen these things other than in pictures, and have a hard time picturing exactly how much spawn I'd be getting.
Also, how much LC would you recommend using for such a bag? I have 60cc syringes, so I was thinking 30cc for each might work....

Ahh, I see. Sorry for the misunderstanding and any confusion it may have caused.

For cubensis cultivation, this is correct. With 3-4 pounds of spawn, you'll most likely be using a 1:3-4 spawn to bulk ratio to gain a 4 inch substrate in the various sized tubs available to make mono's out of. The larger the tubs, the thiner your going to need to spread the spawn to get that desired 4 inch substrate.

I'd inoculate the bags with a full quart of fully colonized grain spawn. On a substrate bag 3-4 pounds, don't inoculate with over 8 cc's per bag. Since you'r not prepping the bags yourself, you can't adjust the grain moisture content to comply with just how much inoculating with LC can throw your grain moisture content off. You only need a small amount of culture to begin to colonize the grains because colonization will be evened out by shaking up the myce at 25% colonization.

Hmmm.....I just got an email back from MycoPath, saying that a 4 lb bag contains about 3 full quarts. This, of course, is equivalent to 4 quart jars filled 3/4 full.
So, I guess these bags contain less spawn than we thought! A 4 lb bag may be the minimum I would be willing to use for 1 tub, given that I normally use 5 jars....

Yeah. There's regular quarts, then there's myco-quarts. lol

Live and learn ..well they have 5 lbers..go with it.
And I agree with the doc there on amount, dont go over 8cc's. More or less may be better though depending on the moisture content.

Right on.....I may go for a little over 8cc since I live in a pretty dry area, but not much. Thanks again!

Ok so from what I can gather, we need to use 5-6 lbs of casing to gain the 4 inches inside the 66 quart mono tub?
And if this is correct, then how much sub will we need (depth wise)?
I am going to use the G2G transfer tech, So I assume that I will inject 5-8CC's (depending on moist. content) of LC in a 1lb bag of rye grain. Shake it up and let sit for about a week and shake some more, then let it work. After all is colonized break it up into chunks and insert into my other rye grain bags (6 1lb bags), Correct?
Sorry guys for all the ?'s but you never learn if you never ask!

4 inch thick casing? Never.
Casing should be about 1/2 inch for up to a 4 inch substrate. Never have a casing over an inch and it should only be up to an inch on a 6-8 inch substrate. Which is kinda to thick I think. I would do 4-5 inches of substrate with a 1/2-3/4 inch casing layer. No idea how much any of that is, most dont, you just make sure you have more then enough and then throw it in something small if you have leftovers.
G2G process seems good, make sure you read up about sterile procedures for it.
