bbox244 said: I working on my first GH now and I'm playing around with using 2 150W submersibles in the basin full of water to provide some heat/humidity to the GH. Thoughts? I have temp probs and have been using massive 50gal FC's in a TiT setup to keep the heat straight, but, working with the shelves is a pain when fruiting, etc. They are zero maintenance, RH is always at least 98% and FAE is perfect. I have a box of pumps for each one that runs 12 hours a day, each one has a natural light 3' bulb for light, and the pumps go into airstones which sit on the bottom under 4" of perlite. So the air is HEPA cleaned, and I have never had a single contam in the FC, but, for ease of access I picked up a few 4 shelve marthas for $28 a piece, my only issue is heating them up and keeping the temp constant. I'm not worried about humidity, I can rig something for this, I just have some serious temp probs where I am. Like 50 at night and 70 in the day. I like to fruit at 78F. Anybody actually put a heater of sorts inside a GH, I don't want any fire hazards and I have already tried heat bombs. So far, the 300W's in the basin at the bottom with a water circulator seems to work "OK", but wondering if anyone has anything better... Thanks,
Do you have any pics of your setup? Sounds pretty cool. Would like to see it and give you my thoughts as well.

Keep heaters away from the chamber. Those temps shouldnt be to much of a problem. Submersable heaters in water seems like a decent way to go about things. A heater in the room is ok to do, but may not be enough to help.

Well, I thought I was going to be slick and grow pans. I didnt' case and placed wax paper over the substrate after being in fruiting conditions for 3 days. This is day 5. I lifted the wax paper because I thought I saw color under it..Yikes! The 2 other cubie substrates look ok for now. I don't know if the wax paper was contaminated or what.
Of course I immediately removed it. Should I just toss this thing or let it sit somewhere?

It could be bruising, I can't tell tho cuz I'm using my phone.
On a side note, does a casing layer have to be pasteurized?

Was it fully colonized when you put them in?

The pan cyans dont looks contaminated, just overlaid. Wax paper is no casing layer, you really should use one for pan cyans.
The cubie pics, first one looks like green mold, 2nd pic cant tell. Doesnt look like cobweb, but maybe just starting. May be green mold starting? Maybe nothing.
If you have concern for an area, push on it lightly. Push on the mycelium away from the mold..finger doesnt go in, feels solid. If you push on a moldy area, your finger pushes right in. Thats how I confirm green mold if it hasnt turned green yet.
