Does this Rye Grain look Too Dry to You?
    #14545479 - 06/01/11 12:18 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

This is what I did:
20 hr Soak in coffee water and gypsum.
10 min Minor Boil
1 hr Air dry-- jar up when grains passed the toilet paper moisture test (hamloaf's rye tek)
90 min PC at 15psi
Allowed to cool in PC overnight
Shake to evenly redistribute grains

Weird thing is, WITHIN each and every jar, the grains facing the wall of the PC came out looking plump, juicy, moist. The grains facing the center of the PC look a whole shade lighter colored, slightly wrinkly, still plump but clearly different. Can't figure it out.

Anyway I shook up the jars to redistribute this moisture difference.

If anyone can chime in-- does this grain look too dry to nocc up? If so, what do you think I could've done different/better?

Those look fine to me and like how mine usually do.

It's normal for the ones against the glass to look a little more wet, and shaking to redistribute the grains was the correct thing to do.

All you can do now is inoculate them and see, but they look alright to me.
