Ability to field test a substance for mushrooms, i.e.- tea.

This may be the wrong category to post this under, but I was wondering if law enforcement has a method of testing a substance for the presence of psychedelic mushrooms? If one were to have a bottle of mushroom tea is there a field test that can be done on it?

It would be better to get a mod to move this one for you.

I agree this doesn't seem like the perfect forum, but I thought laws and drug test were most closely related to politics. What would you suggest, just the general pub forum? Is there a better place that I have overlooked? New here, thanks for the help.

Maybe Security and Safety. Or even the Psychedelic Experience.

There's no field test that would detect mushroom tea. But they sure could hold you somewhere and run GCMS on it. So don't go thinking tea is bust-proof, because it's not.
Safer than just carting around a pounds of shrooms though.

if u have something like tea, i don't think most cops would be looking for or think of it. it would just be that, a bottle of tea. besides tea would be personal use, so again, a lot of cops wouldn't care.

Some of the standard field tests for drugs will show a positive for psilocybin because they react to all indoles. It is likely that the concentration of psilocybin in the tea would be too low to detect on a field test however. Diluting it would make that more difficult, however if they did find it you would be punished much more severely.
One gallon of mushroom tea is as illegal as 8 pounds of dried mushrooms, regardless of the concentration of the tea.
I have never heard of anyone being busted for mushroom tea because the cops generally don't test peoples teas for drugs. Make sure you add ginger and some good tasting tea so it smells like a tea you would carry around, not some kind of drug. Put it in a reasonable tea container, not some sketchy jar or vial.
If you buy some bottled tea and make your mushroom tea the same flavor as is printed on the bottle, they won't give it a second look. It will look like you bought tea at 7-11, took a sip and put the lid back on.

This is poor info. In my state....like most if not all....the actual mushroom is not illegal, but the active chemical psilocin or psilocybin is. Therefore anything containing the drug is considered illegal too......tea....chocolate....
I got caught with 1 mushroom chocolate and charged for 32 grams of mushrooms.
Imagine how much a 20 oz of tea weighs.
To you it may just be personal. On paper it's going to look a lot worse, and if you don't have the cash to get your own lab tests done to proove how weak it was compared to a fruiting body of mushroom, your charges are going to be worse then an 1/8th of mush.

holy shot vandago i thought u went to prison. are u logging in while in the Pen?
my advice was based off my understanding and personal experience with police. and as i said before, i can't imagine most cops would think of or be looking for a tea with drugs in it. Alan seems to have the same thought.

I was trying to think of the safest way to take some mushrooms into a festival situation. It seems to me that tea would be fairly full proof- I don't see the cops there bothering to wait for expensive tests while checking thousands of cars.

yeah but who wants to eat on shrooms sounds like a good way to puke or waste a trip. Lemon tea on an empty stomach ftw.
