gaaaah up so early to be at my new office gig, and putting on a suit to go to work feels soooooo weird!

hours are mon-fri 8am-6pm, for the next 4-8 weeks.  working for a private equity firm as an admin assistant.  the pay is REALLY nice, so I guess I can handle working in a conservative office environment for a few months.  am hoping to save a decent amount of monies while i am there because i'll still be working at my restaurant for 2-3 shifts a week.

hope everyone has a fantastic day!

It's the one thing I'm definitely not looking forward to in my next job, which is likely to require this as well (both getting up early, and wearing suits). I'm just about prepared to take any job that doesn't come with those two requirements, which I regard as nonsensical and a symptom of the shallowness of most people.

i don't know about you guys but i LOVE wearing suits. i've bought some really nice french suits and it makes me feel like a million dollars when i put on my suit. i get my strut on and everything .

I actually can't wait to finish uni and find my way out into employment in the CBD. go into the city and grab a coffee/hot chocolate, work for a few hours, wander out a lunch to a random restaurant in the city, eat like a king, return to work for a few hours. go home and either head to a friends place or a pub/bar. i dunno about you but that sounds pretty damn good to me! :awesome:

Wish I could say the same thing, but I'm already fucked in that respect. Have been for quite some time, actually.

Look, I don't mind wearing a shirt once in a while, but I just don't like the feel of fancy slacks and jackets and I fucking HATE wearing a tie. I'm pretty happy with my jeans and t-shirts.

it's a requirement for the field i'm hopefully aiming to gain employment in. but i mean i see it as a bonus not a burden. theres some really nice tailored stuff out there that looks really good.

but to each their own.

i'm always rocking jeans / shirts / hoody's when i'm dressed casually. i wear all sorts of baggy clothes and random shirts and things. but i also love dressing up and getting into a really nice tailored suit. to be able to get to do that every day would be a great thing in my opinion. and theres heaps of good quality stuff out there that is comfortable to wear. like i know most people dont like the buttoned up neck and tight tie, but if you get a proper fitting shirt, its not tight around the neck or anything, and actually feels good to wear. there should be clearance all around your neck and the tie should fit on without tightening up your neck or anything. Plus it's great to mix and match nice ties with nice shirts etc etc.

i have one of these:

and one of these (it's difficult to see but it has a white and faint light blue alternating stripe):

I like ties and the shirts. I hate the whole blazer/jacket thing. My wrists are really thin and I have very thin fingers. Blazers make my hands look weird. I need some man hands  :seinfeld:

I just clocked off work. About to finish some study then get some Z's before uni tomorrow.

I just don't think it's comfortable to wear all that clothing indoors.

Oh it's not so much about the physical properties of the suit. I buy my suits from a relatively high-end shop in my town, and they fit perfectly and whatnot. No problem there. It's just that I never feel at ease in a suit. I always feel dressed up, insincere, ridiculous. While I know that I don't look ridiculous; women have complimented me on how good I look in a suit. Well, good for them, but I don't feel good in a suit. Fuck suits. Corporate dress code should prescribe jeans for men, and full frontal nudity for pretty women :naughty:

 but thats precisely the reason i like to wear a suit. cos it makes me feel sophisticated and classy, instead of feeling like a hobo or scumbag like i normally do. i get to play the part of being rich and famous. plus i also like the added attention from the ladies :naughty:

Haha, I see, well, I don't feel the need to dress like a hobo or scumbag, but I just like to feel at ease. I like to be judged (well, actually, I don't like to be judged at all, but given the fact that this happens anyway) on content, and not on form. I know, it's naive and in my case perhaps even recalcitrant to expect this and for that reason to under-dress often. I guess it's just a quirk I got from growing up in a context where we had neither the resources nor the necessity for fancy dress. Where I grew up, the regular work uniform used to consist of blue overalls, a cap and shit-covered wellingtons, so dressing in non-shit stained jeans and t-shirts was already a form of fancy dress

i agree, i don't think its right to judge a book by it's cover, but the sad fact is that 70% of the world do judge books based on their covers. even if they say they don't or shouldn't, everyone does to a degree, its just a natural reaction.

Hence why the internet is such a wonderful place. Its hard to judge an invisible or masked cover.

Yeah, I know, and that frustrates me sometimes. There's little other I can do but go with the flow and step in line with the rest, just to make sure I'm not dismissed before people decide to look what's inside the book. But at this point, I'm in a position to think and decide on my next career move, and I must say the whole suit business is starting to become a significant aspect in that. Although I believe in fitting in with the masses in order to function smoothly, I feel I have to balance that comfort with the discomfort of having to walk around in a costume I experience as annoying and insincere. I haven't found the win-win scenario yet, and that bothers me.

It's not so much 'insincere' as 'staged'. It's a performance, a symbolic act.
