Shitake on pea straw

I have colonizing Shitake myc, I have some eucalyptis wood chips and some sawdust that is from a pet shop for mouse nesting, would you suppose this would be ok? I'm gonna do a small dummy grow to test.
Would pea straw be ok? Is there a reason this wouldn't be a good idea? I've also read that if you grow on straw then clone the fruits, next grow on straw will be a stronger fruiter?

i have always done shiitake on sawdust/woodchip blocks. i dont think straw would be a good substrate fir fruiting out the shiitakes. i also dont know that eucalyptis is a good choice of woods...i think most oily/aromatic woods are to be avoided for shiitake but i have never tried anything but oak as thats what we have tons of around here. im also not really sure if eucalyptus is like the oily/aromatic woods we have here. good luck. let us know if the eucalyptus works out

Use the pea fronds. I've grown lots of shiitake and oysters on sweat pea residue after harvest.
Many strains of shiitake also like straw, such as this one, named 'straw strain'. RR

I would also like to say that the eucalyptis wood chips would be a good choice of wood for Shiitake myce. Eucalyptis is a hardwood.
Any idea what kind of wood the sawdust from the pet shop, used for mouse nesting is made out of?

i get irritated at having to make more oysters just because i cant get as much sawdust as i want, but i can always get straw. i mean i love oyster but I'd really love to have a shiitake that do well on straw.

shiitake 75 also work on straw.

Pure straw, no additives.

I asked them at the pet shop but couldn't tell me.
